The City of Milpitas seeks an energetic, creative, and experienced Recreation and Community Services Supervisor to oversee successful operations, programs and services at the Milpitas Community Center. The Recreation Supervisor will be responsible for managing several staff and will assist with critical functions of the Recreation and Community Services Department, including Youth and Teen Programs, Contract Classes, park and facility rental management, non-profits, and special project implementation. The successful candidate will be community-minded, a strong leader, a critical thinker, and promote and encourage innovative programming and services. Examples of Duties
Essential Duties/ Projects:

  1. Oversee operations and services of the Milpitas Community Center;
  2. Supervise two of the departments largest programs – 1) Youth and Teens, 2) Contract Classes
  3. Contract Manager for Department
  4. Staff the Recreation and Community Services Foundation (non-profit)
  5. Staff City Commissions/Subcommittees as assigned
  6. Support program and department-wide Special Events
  7. Re-brand Park and Facility Rentals marketing and outreach

Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation, public administration, physical education, or a closely related field.

Experience:
Three years of responsible experience in the area of public recreation including significant supervisor responsibilities.
• Substitutions: Additional years of increasingly responsible, directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession and maintenance of a valid California Driver’s License is required.
Certification in the following are required within six months of appointment:
• American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED Certification
• Certified Pool Operator (Sports Center only)

Supplemental Information
SELECTION PROCESS:
Applications will be competitively screened based on the minimum qualifications of this position. The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a virtual Oral Board Interview, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 26th.

Followed by an in-person Selection/ Hiring Interview for the most qualified and successful candidates on the week of October 30th.
