Job Description
An employee in this class is responsible for assisting with the execution of events from set-up needs, to execution of event activities as well as event clean-up. Work includes physical labor and independence.
Performs tasks associated with specific event set-up, execution and tear-down throughout the calendar year. Additional opportunities for pre-event assistance may be available prior to larger scale events.
Examples of Duties
- Provides labor of setting event scene (tables, tents, chairs, etc.)
- Assists with execution of special events in City Park, Downtown Burlington and other city facilities
- Responsible for specific job assignments designated for each event
- Person may work directly with participants to help manage game, craft or activity stations, information sharing, event surveys, selling concessions and souvenirs, etc.
- Willingness to complete out of the box tasks and take ownership of event roles
Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school education is preferred. Event experience is a plus.
Valid North Carolina Driver’s License is preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively with public
- Organization and attention to details
- Ability to problem-solve and handle conflicts that may arise during events
- Ability to take directions from the Special Event Coordinators and Lead Staff
- Must be available weekends and be willing to work a varied schedule (see below for specific dates) 2023

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Work in this class is described as medium and frequently requires physical exertion to complete tasks and move objects. Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Work necessitates visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned. Working conditions include both inside and outside environmental conditions.
The City of Burlington does not offer benefits to part-time positions which require less than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
