GENERAL SUMMARY
Salary: $16.83/hr. minimum – $20.61/hr. mid-point (Depending on qualifications)
Under the direction of a Recreation Supervisor or Manager of Recreation Services, will organize, supervise, teach or provide services for participants in an assigned recreational area or activity; will monitor program site facilities; and plan, organize and implement activities for a recreation program. To assist and supervise the public with usage of various Park and Recreation facilities; to supervise the use of equipment and supplies; to enforce the rules and regulations of the recreation center; to lead, oversee and participate in the work of staff responsible for providing recreation services; to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

SUPERVISION
- General supervision is provided by a Recreation Supervisor or Manager of Recreation Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in city and department attendance policies and procedures.
- Organize and implement daily recreation activities for program participants of various age groups in programs such as arts and crafts, physical fitness, social functions or other related programs.
- Provide general supervision of the recreation center; enforce rules and regulations; prepare class schedules; work with contract instructors to provide recreation classes; supervise recreation center and program staff.
- Participate in program planning sessions with other site staff to develop activity and lesson plans; provide a variety of activities for program participants of all ages.
- Organize and implement various special events.
- Conduct daily recreational activities such as sports, games, dances, exercise, arts and crafts classes and other special events for program participants.
- Maintain inventory control on all games and equipment; maintain an accurate and current listing of users.
- Observe safety precautions; correct minor safety problems; conduct activities in a safe manner; maintain discipline at indoor and outdoor recreation areas.
- Use department software to issue participation cards, register participants for classes and collect fees.
- Assist in completing necessary forms and records including emergency cards, purchase records, maintenance checklists and weekly attendance reports.
- Assist in the selection, training, reviewing, scheduling, directing and supervision of part-time program and center staff.
- Administer a maintenance program at assigned facilities; report building deficiencies and maintenance needs; keep fixtures and equipment in proper operating conditions.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, early childhood education or other related field.
- One (1) year of experience working in a recreation or education program is preferred.
Or
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, early childhood education or other related field.
- Three (3) years of experience working in a recreation or education program is required.
Or
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Six (6) years of experience in recreation field is required in lieu of education.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Possession of First aid, CPR and AED certifications or the ability to obtain within six weeks of hire.
- Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement preferred or ability to obtain.
WORK SCHEDULE
- 40-hour work week with rotating day & evening hours.
- Some weekends & other hours as needed for program and facility needs.

Full Time Employees:

The City is self-insured and offers a choice of four medical plans: HSA, High Deductible, HMO, PPO, and EPO Medical Plans through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. Employee medical coverage goes into effect the first day of the month following 30 days of employment. Coverage is available to all full-time employees at group rates. Employees enrolled in the City’s self-insured medical plan also have access to the Mesquite Employee Health Center (MEHC) clinic and pharmacy.
The City offers three dental plan options: a managed plan (DHMO), an indemnity plan (DPPO), an enhanced indemnity plan (DPPO Enhanced). Coverage is available to all full-time employees at group rates.
The City offers free Vision Insurance to all employees. Dependents can be added for an additional fee.
Basic Group Life Insurance protection is provided to eligible full-time employees in the amount of two times the annual salary as recorded at the beginning of each year. The following voluntary benefits are available to full-time employees: Supplemental Life, AD&D Insurance, Cancer Insurance and Long-Term Disability
Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS): All employees appointed to positions designated to work 1,000 hours or more per year must participate in the TMRS. TMRS is a qualified tax-deferred retirement plan under Section 401 of the IRS. Seven (7) percent of gross earnings are deducted each payroll as a pre-tax deduction and deposited into the member account. When an employee becomes vested and retires, the City provides 2-to-1 matching contributions.
Other benefits include Social Security, Tax Saver Program (Section 125 Flexible Spending Account), Deferred Compensation Plans, Direct Deposit, Paid Holidays, Paid Vacation, Sick Leave and Personal Leave.
