DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this classification is to assist in implementing a wide variety of recreational programs and events and to perform customer service for an assigned facility or recreation program.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in instructing and supervising assigned recreational activities, which may include youth programs, senior programs, special needs programs, fitness programs and classes, sports leagues and clinics, after school and summer programs, arts and crafts programs, aquatics programs, and special events: plans activities and lessons; gathers supplies and equipment; verifies completion of required forms for each participant; teaches classes, clinics, and skills; provides information and direction; performs assessments; and ensures all activities comply with established rules, policies, procedures and safety standards.
- Performs customer service functions: provides information or assistance regarding services, activities, forms, procedures, fees, or other issues; responds to routine questions and complaints; researches problems and initiates problem resolution; and refers complaints/problems to appropriate personnel.
- Processes participant registrations which may include court reservations, tournament registrations, and other scheduled services and events: receives requests for classes or other scheduled services; reviews registration forms for accuracy and completeness; enters information into online database and calendars; collects and records fees; and maintains related documentation.
- Receives and processes fees for programs and activities: counts monies received; balances cash drawer; audits transactions to locate and correct any discrepancies; closes out cash drawer; prepares and submits deposit; and maintains related documentation.
- Prepares facilities according to daily schedule: moves, sets up, and tears down tables, chairs, etc.; and performs routine cleaning duties such as emptying trash, sweeping floors, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: One year of experience in which the primary function of the position is in recreation services, activities or programs within a specialty field of recreation
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work independently and on a team
- Good communication skills
- Ability to remain neutral during conflict and stressful situations
- Ability to and give and receive direction
- Considerable knowledge of property management
- Familiarity with departmental and county policies and procedures
- Proficiency in first aid and CPR, building maintenance, coordinating events and activities
- Mastery in the use of standard office equipment, computers, office systems, record keeping and filing
Licensing: Possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
OTHER
This position requires staff call up in an emergency situation.

- Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
- Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate cues or signals.
- Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/human bites, water hazards or rude/irate customers.
