DESCRIPTION
Plans, develops, directs and coordinates recreational program for all age groups within the guidelines of standard recreation practices and departmental policies and procedures. Works with co-workers, directors, businesses, educational organizations and the public to provide and maintain community center.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organizes community oriented and fund-raising activities, summer recreational programs, and instructional programs. Establishes visibility within the community and promotes recreational programs and events. Serves as a resource to partnership agencies.
- Prepares revenue and facility rental reports, budget estimates, attendance report, and program and staff evaluations.
- Supervises the maintenance and use of the facility and maintains schedules and calendar for building usage.
- Selects, supervises and evaluates recreation center staff and serves as a resource to subordinate employees as well as recruits volunteers and schedules community service workers.
- Assists with registration of programs and receipting and depositing monies.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature of level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s degree, or High School Diploma based on experience.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience with Bachelor’s Degree, five (5) years with Associate’s Degree, or seven (7) years with High School Diploma in implementing and managing recreation programs.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of philosophy, principles and practices of public recreation and park administration, management and organization and rules and regulations of various sporting activities and games
- Familiarity with departmental rules and regulations governing recreational activities, relevant County policies and procedures, and community needs and resources
- Proficiency in organizing activities, planning and supervising the work of others, budgeting, general bookkeeping, and recordkeeping procedures
- Mastery of operating general office, athletic, maintenance, and audiovisual equipment
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Good Customer Service Skills
Licensing/Certification:
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
- Must obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications within one (1) year of employment.
- Must obtain and maintain SERV Safe Certifications within one (1) year of employment.

- Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
- Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
- Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/human bites, water hazards or rude/irate customers.

This position does require staff call up in an emergency situation.
This position requires less than 50% of travel from office to other locations.
