Description
St. Louis County Parks and Recreation Department strives to provide high quality parks, facilities, and recreation services that enhance residents’ lives through responsible and effective management of resources. Currently, we are seeking a Recreation Supervisor to work at the St. Louis Carousel in Faust Park to help achieve these goals.

Examples of Duties

Manage operation of 100-year-old St. Louis Carousel – including supervision and hiring of part-time Carousel staff

Coordinate with Faust Park staff on care and preservation of the historic St. Louis Carousel

Manage a robust schedule of events and coordinate facility rentals, and reservations

Successfully plan and execute educational and historic programming of the St. Louis Carousel

Collaborate with the board of directors for the carousel; the Faust Park Foundation

Manage operations of gift shop – including tracking sales and inventory

Work alongside Faust Park staff to enhance current programming of the park and participate in park programs and events

Must be willing to work weekends and evenings as needed

Answer questions for programs, events and facilities

Perform first aid on program participants and facility users as necessary

Manage and report fiscal activities at Carousel for both St. Louis County and the Faust Park Foundation

Write marketing and programming information, including provision of photographs and other images, for St. Louis County and Faust Park Foundation use and distribution

Manage social media pages for the St. Louis Carousel
Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, History, Museum Studies, or a related field preferably including work experience involving recreation activities, historic interpretation, and program development; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant’s education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.

The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant’s earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.

All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.

St. Louis County offers its employees many excellent benefits with paid medical insurance, 20 days of PTO (paid time off) the first year and increasing with seniority, and 11 paid holidays. Employees hired for full time employment will participate in the St. Louis County retirement plan where they contribute 4% of their salary to the defined benefit plan with vesting after 7 years.
