Nature of Work
The Recreation Supervisor plans, implements, and evaluates sports programing in the city of Richfield. The Recreation Supervisor also oversees select special events, field and court permits, and portable toilet placement. This position work under the general supervision of the Recreation Program Manager, and plays an important role in encouraging a happy, healthy, and connected community in the city of Richfield by providing equitable and inclusive recreational experiences that promote physical activity, mental wellness, and social belonging.
Job Duties
Essential Duties
Coordinate park facility use including issuing field and court permits, coordinating with Public Works for field maintenance, issuing and tracking facility keys and coordinating portable toilets in the parks.
Plan, develop, administer, and evaluate programs and events which provide year-round equitable and inclusive opportunities for city residents in assigned area of sports programing.
- Assesses city programing needs, staying up to date on current trends in recreation to adjust current programs or develop new programs and events for city residents that serve the needs of the community within assigned areas.
- Implements high quality recreational programs by purchasing supplies, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating part time and seasonal employees, engaging volunteers and developing contracts with outside providers for program services and facilities.
- Coordinate registration, fields questions, and addresses complaints for programs and events within assigned areas.
- Evaluates programs in assigned areas, listening to participant feedback, and administering surveys.
- Rotates coordination of major city events with other recreation supervisors.
Develop, administer, and monitor marketing and advertising strategies for programs and events in coordination with the Marketing Department and other departmental staff.
- Identifies target audiences and builds customer base for assigned areas and events.
- Prepares program descriptions, prices, and schedules for the city brochures, and adheres to set publishing deadlines for programs in assigned areas and events.
- Promotes programs and facilities by developing fliers, newsletters, and other promotional materials, and identifying effective methods of distribution.
- Maintains web pages related to assigned program areas and events.
Connect with businesses, non-profits, community groups and counterparts at other agencies, serving as a liaison for the city in service of administering current programing, as well as identifying and developing new programs and events.
- Serve as liaison to one or more assigned community organization to maximize communication and collaboration for assigned areas and events.
- Serves as liaison to external contractors and vendors for assigned areas.
- Provides general customer serves that is responsive, helpful and meets the need of the community.
- Identifies partners for new programing opportunities.
- Develops solutions to overcome barriers to program participation.
Prepare, implement, and maintain budgets relating to assigned programs and events, submit budget recommendations for assigned areas to the Recreation Program Manager for development the divisional budget.
- Monitors and analyzes program area budgets to ensure cost effective and efficient delivery of programs and events.
- Identifies, applies for, and executes grant opportunities to support programs in assigned areas.
Maintain records, prepare reports, attend meetings, and keep supervisor informed of work progress.
Standard office hours are 8:30am – 5:00pm but must be able to work some irregular hours as programs dictate.
Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree majoring in recreation or closely related field.
- At least three (3) years of experience in coordinating, planning and implementing recreation programing and events OR any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
- Must possess a valid Class D driver’s license.
Supplemental Information
- Ability to sit, talk and listen for extended periods of time. Moderate physical activity such as standing, walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, twisting, pushing, pulling, bending, stopping, and squatting.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to occasionally lift materials and supplies ranging from 20-60 pounds.
