The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhance the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Regional Aquatic Manager to join its Recreation & Wellness Team. The potential candidate will play a key role in the following duties:

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Monitors daily operation of personnel and maintenance of several aquatic facilities.
  • Ensures aquatic centers are compliant with local and state codes and regulations.
  • Produces reports, statistical data and other required documentation submitted to management.
  • Directs, administers, and supervises the overall operation and personnel in several aquatic facilities.
  • Provides site and program information on aquatic services. Represents the department at committee meetings.
  • Serves as liaison between aquatic supervisors and aquatics section administrative offices.
  • Plans, organizes and coordinates tournaments, programs, and special events.
  • Maintains good public relations with neighborhood participants and civic clubs.
  • Provides site visits to all assigned aquatic centers once a day.
  • Coordinates the purchase, inventory, and maintenance of assigned aquatic centers’ equipment.
  • Assists with preparation and monitoring of section’s budget.
  • This individual work independently and interdependently in organizing and carrying out operation duties.
  • Manages the routine and special operations maintenance of at least 10 or more assigned Aquatic Centers.
  • Recruits, selects, trains, and certifies lifeguard staff for Aquatic Center employment.
  • Communicates and coordinates all operation tasks and assignments for pool operations.
  • Organize, plan, schedule, and implement training sessions for Regional Pool/parks..

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires stooping, bending, and lifting of up to 50lbs. (bags or sodium bicarbonate, portable pool vacuums, and other aquatic center supplies/equipment).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
An Associate’s degree in recreation, physical education, business administration or related field.
Must be certified in First Aid/CPR.

May be required to obtain Lifeguard or Water Safety Instructor certification within 1 year of employment in classification.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three years of aquatic pool operations experience, with one of the years as a supervisor.
May substitute pertinent experience for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

– Applicants who possess Water Safety Instructor and/or Lifeguard Instructor certifications. Knowledge of commercial pool operation will be highly preferred.
– Applicants with knowledge of pool operational procedures involving Aquatic Center’s mechanical room circulation system will be highly preferred.
– Applicants with a current/valid Driver’s license will be highly preferred.
