Job Description
NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48 are looking for a dynamic, passionate, and bilingual reporter to join our nationally award-winning team of journalists. The applicant should be able to deliver meaningful and impactful stories in both English and Spanish for all our digital and broadcast platforms. The applicant must also be able to develop sources and enterprise news stories. Shooting and editing skills are required. This is not an entry level position.
Essential Functions
- Strong news writing skills and the ability to edit, produce and gather content under heavy deadline pressure, without compromising accuracy or credibility
- Excellence in live on-air reporting
- A pioneering spirit with the creative desire to produce and present stories in new and different ways
- Must understand how to leverage social media platforms in both English and Spanish
- Passion to research, develop and deliver stories on tight timelines
- Invested and engaged in the local community while understanding how to represent the local viewer
- Collaborate across all levels, highly organized and can work well with digital editors, reporters, assignment editors, writers and other producers
- Participate in station-sponsored events and all assigned special promotions projects
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Three years of experience as a television reporter
- Must have the ability to work any of a 24 x 7 shift
Eligibility Requirements:

- Must be willing to work at the station in San Jose or any other part of the San Francisco Bay Area
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
Desired Characteristics:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications
- Experience as a General Assignment Reporter
- Excellent social media skills with a proven track record of using different platforms to tell stories
- Excellent writing skills as well as very strong speech skills
- Able to ad-lib effortlessly in various types of situations, particularly breaking news
- Strong live reporting skills are necessary
- Able to handle working under the pressure of intense deadlines
- Possess the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to enterprise, research, and plan stories
- Demonstrated experience generating and producing news stories
- Prior experience delivering taped and live reports
- Can act decisively under stress and tight deadlines
- Ability to work flexible hours (including weekends) and to return to work in emergencies depending upon news coverage
- Prior experience reporting in a top 30 market

- Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

Salary range: $100,000 – $150,000
