Job Summary/Basic Function:
This position manages day-to-day activities to ensure the unit is running efficiently and meets the expectations and needs of customers and staff. Assists with the management/administrative aspects and has operational control of a range of projects. May work on assignments related to project development and management initiatives, internal operating procedures, business processes and policies. Responsible for the fiscal management of designated units.
Department Overview:
The Division of Research and Economic Development (DRED) provides comprehensive support for faculty during all phases of the research endeavor; manages the university’s intellectual property portfolio; facilitates relationships with industry for research and commercialization collaboration; and leads outreach aimed at fostering economic development in Boise and the region.

This position is a shared role between the Office of Sponsored Programs and several Recharge Centers within the College of Engineering (COEN) and DRED. The successful candidate will have a strong customer service focus and be a person who can work independently and as part of a dynamic team. Depending on experience, this role will have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule after initial training in the role is completed. This position is partially grant-funded, and the grant is expected to end on January 31, 2028. Employment beyond the grant period is contingent upon the renewal of the grant or securement of additional funding for the position.
Level Scope:
Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision-making. This level is typically focused on self-development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.
Essential Functions:
95% of the time, the Research Business Coordinator must:

  • Provide research business administration support to multiple campus research units known as Recharge Centers. This role is split between the College of Engineering and the Division of Research and will manage the administrative support of distinct recharge units, specifically Fabrication, Characterization, and Testing (FaCT) Core and Biomedical Research Vivarium.
  • Administrative support of these centers includes managing invoicing and payment processing for internal and external vendors, purchasing needed equipment and supplies in compliance with Boise State University policies, and maintaining cost-tracking spreadsheets for assigned recharge centers.
  • Conduct a biennial review and rate reviews as needed for assigned recharge centers to ensure compliance with Boise State University Policy.
  • Role will also support Office of Sponsored Projects staff in compliance management of all campus recharge centers. This includes reviewing recharge center rate studies, creating a process to ensure that all required reporting occurs (monthly, annually, etc.); supporting campus Recharge centers in initiating iLab and providing ongoing training and administrative support; coordinating with the campus recharge team to support the development of new recharge centers.
  • Responsible for various processes and liaison with other units such as Human Resources, research support, financials, data management, and communication.
  • Directs customer service and support functions. Assists in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization’s mission and helps execute staff succession and growth plans. May lead efforts to recruit new employees with the goal of attracting and retaining qualified individuals.
  • Serves as liaison to other team members, including interacting with managers of different areas of the organization, presenting findings to stakeholders and higher management, as well as training and supervising new employees, and tracking and measuring staff performance.
  • Website maintenance for the Fabrication, Characterization, and Testing (FaCT) Core and Biomedical Research Vivarium.

5% of the Time:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of experience in research administration, business financial operations, or office management
  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, accounting, or equivalent degree
  • Experience as an administrative support staff supporting multiple people in varying roles

Salary and Benefits:
Salary ranges from $47,000 to $55,000 and is commensurate with experience.
