Research Manager

The Harris Poll is seeking a Research Manager to join the Media, Entertainment, and Technology team and create high-impact work that solves client challenges. Primary day-to-day responsibilities will revolve around driving and managing many different types of research engagements, including quantitative and qualitative, global and US-based, for media and entertainment clients especially. Our team focuses primarily on custom research projects, both among the general population as well as among members of clients’ insight communities, which often include a wide range of solutions, including behavioral science-based tools for emotional analysis.

As Research Manager, you will manage end-to-end research projects (with Research Director partnership and oversight), from designing the research instrument to the first pass of data analysis to creating reports that are visually appealing and answer the client’s business questions. Great writing and narrative storytelling are integral to success in this position; writing samples will be required during the interview process.

While this role will have ample team and company support, the ability and proclivity to be pro-active and autonomous is also critical.

Responsibilities

    • Act as a primary point person for media/entertainment client interactions on most engagements, which may involve daily touchpoints
    • Bring strong analytical, narrative, and visual design skills to bear in creating reports and presenting results to clients and stakeholders
    • Translate data into the story (or stories) of a study through clear writing
    • Execute all aspects of the research process with excellence and independence, including devising a timeline and budget; helping to design studies and proposals; contributing hypothesizes that frame report planning; synthesizing data and analytics to create insights and narratives that drive actionable recommendations; presenting results to client teams
    • Contribute to proposals, for instance, by researching study’s subject matter
    • Manage projects (usually more than one at a time) by liaising with internal teams to make sure milestones are met and also by communicating with clients on progress
    • Develop questionnaires both from scratch and from client outlines to near-final or final drafts
    • Check survey links for quality and accuracy
    • Support and monitor field management, including validating early data, conducting regular bad case searches, and flexing quotas as needed
    • Proactively support client research needs and goals, contributing innovative ideas and relevant solutions that exceed client expectations upon delivery
    • Possess broad market research experience and understanding of different methodologies and approaches and how those relate to specific client business needs
    • Consistently exceed client expectations and strengthen relationships to support team revenue growth
    • Lead both large-scale and quick-turn projects through collaboration with colleagues

Skills and qualifications

    • 5+ years relevant custom research experience, client or supplier side, with a focus on quantitative research
    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Understanding of complex research methodologies (max diff design, conjoint analysis, and segmentations)
    • Experience in media and/or entertainment highly preferred, client or supplier side
    • Excellent Microsoft Suite skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Google Slides, and writing skills
    • Excellent oral communication and client service skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work harmoniously and effectively within a team and across teams
    • Strong visual/aesthetic sensibility to bring to highly designed client deliverables
    • Pluses would be; experience with technology clients, experience with B2B research, specific interest in trend hunting and noticing new cultural happenings as they emerge, experience in audio/video editing for high-impact deliverables, familiarity with SPSS, Experience leading qualitative research design and reporting and Interest/experience/background in behavioral science and/or psychology

$70,000 – $100,000 a year

In order to comply with equal pay and salary transparency laws in various locations, we believe the target range of base compensation in all locations within the United States for this role is $70,000 – $100,000 USD. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and location.
