We are looking for a Research Support Specialist I to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Poolesville, MD.

What you will do!
In the Research Support Specialist role, you will perform daily animal health surveillance checks and report any abnormal conditions of either the animals or the animal room environment appropriately. You will administer prescribed treatments to research animals as needed; as well as maintain detailed and accurate animal health records for all experimental data and related information. You will prepare and submit written records, charts, logs, and inventories

Candidates for the Research Support Specialist I position should possess the ability to perform technical duties associated with the Animal Study Proposals, especially relating to NHP Critical Care studies, to include but not be limited to collection of physiologic data, blood withdrawals, knowledge of aseptic techniques for surgical preparation, anesthesia induction, maintenance and monitoring, set up and operation of mechanical ventilators and anesthesia equipment and all other related critical care monitoring equipment. You will also aid with technical procedures in relation to NHP retroviral, human respiratory and flavivirus studies, to include but not be limited to daily animal health checks, blood withdrawals, anesthesia, intestinal biopsies, bronchoalveolar lavage, tracheal and nasal lavages, necropsies, documented observations, and treatments.

You will practice universal precautions appropriate to different levels of ABSL and work safely with animal / human pathogen biohazards to help maintain the research animal facility as a safe work environment / operation. You will also be asked to report any animal health, care, and/or wellbeing concerns to the appropriate facility management. You may also be asked to report any facility infrastructure issues, relative to the animal care and support areas, to the appropriate facility management.

Who are we looking for?
A candidate that possesses a high school diploma/GED; and have experience working in laboratory animal care with non-human primates. AALAS certification at the LAT level required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for what is listed.

The pay for this position is $27.00 USD per hour.
