Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, performs and monitors daily project protocols.
  • Collects, prepares and maintains required research documentation, including informed consent records, case records, clinical notes and medical reports.
  • Reports and assists with the management of protocol deviations, adverse events and other project-related issues.
  • Responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the lab.
  • Orders and purchases supplies as directed from the supervisors.
  • Gathers information on new equipment necessary in the lab and recommends purchases.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • High School Diploma Required.
  • Associate’s degree in laboratory science field may offset one year of the experience requirement.
  • Bachelor’s degree may offset two years of the experience requirement.
  • Master’s may offset three years of the work experience requirement.

Certifications:

  • None required

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of four years of experience in a research or related laboratory environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
  • Ability to distinguish color
  • Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Our translational research within the Center for Immunotherapy and Precision Immuno-Oncology focuses on development of molecular diagnostics for patients with virally-associated cancers. We aim to implement these assays in the clinical setting to support biomarker-adapted clinical trials, with the ultimate goal of reducing recurrence rates and minimizing treatment-associated morbidity.

Focusing on HPV and EBV, we also seek to develop new techniques to screen healthy individuals for latent viral infections which may predispose to future development of oropharyngeal, nasopharyngeal, cervical, and anorectal cancers.

Under the supervision and guidance of the research staff investigator, the research technician would perform the following duties:
– Nucleic acid extraction from control materials and biospecimens.
– Real-time PCR nucleic acid amplification, interpretation, and assay optimization.
– Preparation of standard materials and oligonucleotides.
– Library preparation, quality assurance, and next-generation sequencing.
– Organize experimental results and data.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $17.25

Maximum hourly: $26.31
