This is an in-person position and is not eligible for remote work. This position has an anticipated work schedule of Monday – Friday, 1:00pm – 9:00pm, subject to change. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt.
Training Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm, subject to change.
Responsible for coordinating and providing behavioral health care to inmates at the El Paso County Jail who are experiencing crisis or adverse emotional reactions to internal or external events.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Provides solution-focused counseling and safety planning interventions to at risk clients that deescalates and stabilizes them.
- Creates individualized behavior modification plans and effectively communicates the plan and treatment recommendation to clients.
- Routinely follows up with inmates experiencing behavioral health concerns.
- Communicates treatment recommendations to security and professional staff.
- Documents all client interactions in multiple state and internal agency databases.
- Completes clinical notes for all client interactions in a timely manner.
- Completes behavioral health assessments using approved screening tools.
- Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Adheres to jail policy and procedures for the (Therapeutic Response Unit and Stabilization Team) TRUST program.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to write and maintain accurate records and reports to meet management objectives.
- Ability to maintain the security of sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to assess situations and make prudent and appropriate decisions; ability to apply conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Skills in using a computer and various software packages including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to perform under pressure and when confronted with persons acting under stress.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education and Experience:
- Must be currently attending a Master’s program; graduation date must be within one year of date of hire.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree.
- Experience working in a jail or with high-risk clients.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
Licenses/Certificates:
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred.
- Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, and drug screen.
Work Conditions
Duties are performed in an office environment to include a detention facility. May encounter some hazards to personal safety through contact with potentially violent inmates. Must be available to work variable hours including weekends, evenings and holidays as needed.
