Russell Labs Facilities Technician

Job Summary:
The Russell Labs Facilities Technician will join the Russell Labs Administrative Service Center team in providing support to the academic departments of Entomology, Forest & Wildlife Ecology, and Plant Pathology in their research, instruction, and outreach missions.

This position operates under general supervision of the Instrumentation and Building Manager and will be part of a small team working to ensure that building operations, infrastructure and equipment maintenance, and occupant needs are met. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and flexible, able to navigate University policies and procedures, and collaborate effectively with others to achieve common goals.

Responsibilities: Inspects, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, design and operational maintenance as needed.

  • 20% Utilizes specialized equipment to repair and maintain complex machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
  • 20% Performs routine and non-routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
  • 20% Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
  • 20% Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries independently to appropriate entities
  • 20% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed

Education:
Required
H.S. Diplomaor equivalent

Preferred
Associate’s Degreein facilities maintenance, electrical, mechanical maintenance or a related field
Qualifications:
Required
– Experience working in a building maintenance, construction, mechanical repair or similar setting
– Basic computer skills including the ability to learn and utilize online systems to complete and track work projects
– Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain University driver authorization
– Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population
– Problem-solving skills including critical thinking, decision-making, and creativity

Preferred
– EPA 608 certification, or the ability to obtain certification
– Experience interpreting and following complex policies and procedures
License/Certification:
Required
Drivers License – Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Work is expected onsite and exact schedule will be determined at the time of hire in coordination with the supervisor.
