Education: Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or another relevant field or a combination of education, training, and work history providing at least five years of experience in Safety and Security Administration.
Qualifications: Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop
written rules, standards, policies, and to conduct meetings and make group presentations. Safety Coordinator experience preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and be 18 years of age or older.
Job Goal: To maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees and visitors by helping to develop, establish and enforce safety and security policies, access control procedures, and accident prevention efforts. To support risk management, emergency management, and asset protection efforts.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for directing and coordinating district wide safety & security programs.
- Research, develop and implement safety & security programs to enhance, encourage and promote safe work & school environments, practices and conditions; and to prevent, detect and correct unsafe practices and conditions.
- Advise architectural design teams for construction and renovation projects relative to school safety.
- Review, interpret and communicate school district, local, county, state and federal safety & security regulations to ensure understanding and compliance. Coordinate with DPI to ensure compliance of Safety and Security programs, implementation, and reporting.
- Conduct health and safety meetings and training workshops with various employee groups to educate and motivate employees concerning safety.
- Partner with Workforce Safety & Insurance to develop and implement a Safety Management Program which includes safety training, facility inspections, and accident investigation program.
- Investigate job related safety hazards and write a detailed Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for each job.
- Comply with Workforce Safety & Insurance recommendations to achieve a reduction in workforce injury rates.
- Implement and direct the hazard communication program including managing the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for hazardous material.
- Implement and direct the safe drivers program for employees driving company or personal light vehicles or trucks on the job.
- Maintain an inventory of all emergency and hazardous waste materials.
- Monitor and maintain an asbestos/radon program that meets the Employee Right to Know requirements.
- Coordinate with school administration, a review of educational delivery systems and information being delivered to students regarding safety topics. Recommend as necessary changes in safety related information being delivered to students. Maintain a district Emergancy Management binder and ensure staff and students understand and practice policies IAW appropriate guidances.
- Coordinate with school adminstration emergency response plans for lockdowns, fire drills, etc. and ensure compliance and compentancy of district wide adminstration, staff, and students.
- Serve as the District’s On-Site Crisis Management Commander. Work along side Superintendants to conduct district wide drills, such as an annual reunification event, unannounced lockdowns, etc.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. Lift sixty (60) lbs. occasionally, with the ability to reach, stand, walk, carry, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, and/or crawl. Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Terms of Employment: twelve (12) months
Evaluation: Job performance will be evaluated by the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
