Description
The Sankofa Mobile Museum is a mobile history experience that allows students to dive into history and connect events of the past to issues today revealing the connections of past activists and challenging visitors to become active in causes in their communities. The Sankofa Mobile Museum will travel around Prince George’s County and the Washington DC Metropolitan area and use history to teach social activism. Using augmented reality, virtual reality, and facilitated dialogue techniques, the Sankofa Mobile Museum staff will help guide participants through the museum experiences and unpack the stories that bind us all together.

This position pays at a rate of $16.00 per hour to $18.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
Must work a minimum of 18 hours per week and be willing to work some weekends and some holidays including Juneteenth. Candidate can work a maximum of up to 29 hours a week. Flexibility for students enrolled in college.
Examples of Important Duties
- Conducts interpretive, recreational, and school-based educational programs in cultural history for the general public and specialty groups.
- Assists with program development by researching subject matter.
- Assists in the development of interpretive programs
- Conducts research of topics using primary and secondary sources.
- Interpreters are responsible for delivering and designing educational tours to students and adults, planning and implementing educational programs, and creating engaging educational activities.
- Interpreters may have the opportunity to create educational programs or organize events depending on the aptitude and interests of the interpreter and the needs of the museum
- Lead tours of the museum, conduct public and family programs, staff special weekend events including Juneteenth.
- Engage and interact with guests in the museum space
- Engage with schoolteachers and administration at school, opening and closing the museum and exhibits, assisting museum guests, and interacting with our staff.
- Be a team player who is able to manage and see multiple projects and tasks with short- and medium-term deadlines to completion with little supervision
- Assist in the developing tours, educational activities, and programs under the direction of the Sankofa Mobil Museum Manger
- Assist Sankofa Mobil Museum Manger as needed and fulfill other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Candidate must be at least pursuing or have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in either Museum Studies, African American history, Latin American history, African American Studies, Latin American Studies, Women Studies, LGBTQIA history, Public History, History, social work, or in an appropriate field.
- Ideal candidates should be self-starters, strong communicators, team players, and have an interest and experience in museum education, history, public history, or education, either in classroom teaching or informal contexts.
- Valid driver’s license; must be able to drive.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with youth ages 5-17.
- Knowledge of K-12 curriculum
- Spanish speakers preferred
- A complete criminal background check will be completed before hire
- Proficiencies in MS Office Suite (especially Excel, Word and Outlook); Experience with or willingness to learn the Parks Direct and Rec-track point-of-sale system.
- Proficient using social media including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms.

This is a part-time position which does not provide benefits.

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.
If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.
Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
