The Next Generation GEO Overhead Persistent Infrared System (OPIR-NGG) program’s Tools Factory is seeking a qualified Software Engineer to join their Sunnyvale, CA-based team.
The OPIR-NGG Functional Test Assembly (FTA) Lab supports Space Vehicle design, development, qualification, and operations. The lab provides a platform for developing, testing, and integrating hardware and software products. The OPIR-NGG FTA uses a combination of flight-like hardware, emulations, software, simulations, and our Tools Factory products to represent a fully-functioning space vehicle on the ground or in orbit.
As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for integrating flight software, databases, simulation software/hardware, and other in-house tools into a lab architecture that supports the program’s multi-million dollar milestones and satellite missions. This role will support career growth through opportunities to challenge yourself in innovating and evolving our products with the latest practices and technologies.
You will participate in all phases of an Agile software development lifecycle (requirements, design, development, test, documentation), modifying existing software products and developing new subsystems while adhering to program cost and schedule targets. You will leverage our software engineering processes and procedures while performing your respective software engineering and verification activities.
Responsibilities
Within 30 days
• Basic understanding of Software tools that are being developed
• Understand how to develop software using Git
• Understand the Agile rolls including interfacing with your scrum master.
• Make sure all required software to work as a developer is installed on your computer
• Integrate into Tools team as a developer working in sprints and completing projects
Within 60 days
• Working on stories while interfacing with your Scrum Master and Product Owner
• Understanding how Software Tools interface between SBIRS and NGG
• Support team in presenting completed project at sprint demo’s
• Participate and contribute to story creation
Within 90 days
• Make technical contributions to software tools
• Present their knowledge of the tool they are working on with support of subject matter experts.
• Understand Agile/Tools Factory work flow
• Work as a contributing member of the team, by collaborating with other colleagues to find solutions to problems.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education.
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming principles
• Familiarity with the UNIX or Linux command lines
• Familiarity with software version control systems
Desired Skills:
• Full-stack development experience
• Familiarity with Atlassian products (JIRA, Confluence, etc.)
• Familiarity with Git in general or GitLab in particular
• Familiarity with the unit testing and integration testing of software products
• Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages: Java, Python, C++, Perl
• Proficiency in operating as a Developer within an Agile Scrum team
• Develop software and integration test suites
• Conduct/oversee testing across product development life cycle and program testing milestones
• Use software test tools designed to provide automated detailed test results
• Ability and willingness to learn about and develop in multiple programming languages
• Ability to convey topics, ideas, and issues at both a technical and non-technical level
• Demonstrated interpersonal and collaboration skills required in a team environment
• Track record of being a self-starter and strong independent contributor

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4×10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California or New York City is $66,500 – $125,300. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
