SCADA/GMS Engineering Advisor – Generation Management System (SCADA/GMS)

Under limited supervision, the SCADA/GMS Engineering Advisor performs engineering, technical, and regulatory compliance work in support of the Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition/Generation Management System (SCADA/GMS) and provides support for the Security and NERC CIP Compliance program, commissioning and integration of Engie and 3rd party Generation Assets into the Generation Management System (GMS).

This position is located in Houston, TX and reports to IT Senior Advisor ENGIE Energy Marketing North America IT.

What you’ll do:

  • Support 24/7 Generation Management System (GMS) and associated systems.
  • Knowledge of plant operations and OSI Monarch GMS software.
  • Knowledge of working with PI tags to OSISoft Pi Historian.
  • An understanding of ERCOT market rules and modeling tools for implementation of updates
  • Experience in developing software code for power system applications.
  • Having experience in developing sophisticated tabular displays for operators’ situational awareness is preferred.
  • Knowledge in power systems operation and control, control systems, AGC, generation dispatch, and 24×7 real-time operations
  • Knowledge of structure, operations, and protocols of competitive electricity markets (ERCOT, CAISO, MISO, PJM, SPP)
  • Knowledge of data integration for different energy markets.
  • Strong understanding of ERCOT QSE operations and managing portfolios of generating resources.
  • Familiarity with OSII Monarch databases from DB dumps to relational data structures for reporting and analysis.
  • Familiarity with the use of OpenCalc
  • Familiarity with the use of OSII Data explorer.
  • Perform point-to-point checkouts and verify telemetry quality.
  • Interact with ISO and outside vendors for data transmit/receives of high accuracy telemetry data

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and GMS SCADA experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of general SCADA experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in SCADA application support.
  • General knowledge of generation control systems (GMS).
  • General experience with SCADA protocols with emphasis on DNP 3.0 over TCP/IP and ICCP.
  • General experience with OSISoft PI historians.
  • Proficient with Windows operating systems and commonly used programming technologies such as C, C#, Java, Visual Basic, .Net and SQL. Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint).
  • Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, the essential functions of the job.
  • Knowledge of various ICS (Industrial Control System) communication protocols with emphasis on DNP 3.0 and ICCP as well as visualization tools and HMI.
  • Ability to perform guided systems testing of specification requirements.
  • Ability to effectively participate in multiple projects or project capacities in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 environment and response within adequate time.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with ENGIE employees and vendors/customers

  • Salary Range: $97,965 – $163,590, annually
  • Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors
  • In addition to salary, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan
