EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: At will

CURRENT STARTING TIME AND HOURS: 2 Temporary positions working variable hours Monday through Friday. The temporary assignment is through September of 2024.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under direction, assists with efforts to implement evidence-based school safety initiatives. Conducts risk and vulnerability assessments (RVA) at local schools and school districts. Supports training and technical assistance to schools in the area of emergency preparedness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists, conducts, and advises on the completion of risk, threat, and vulnerability assessments for local schools and school districts.

Assists in the development and review of local school district emergency operations plans.

Assists with the coordination of training sessions, practice alerts, exercises and other educational activities to ensure that staff, residents, government agencies, private companies, schools and civic groups are prepared for emergency response as it relates to school violence prevention and safety.

Assists in the development and implementation of evidence-based threat assessment protocols to assist schools in analyzing received threats.

Provides staff support to professional, business, and community groups in relation to emergency management and school safety, including participating in meetings and developing reports as necessary.

Attends and participates in training and seminars relative to current school safety issues.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate degree or 60 credit hours in Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Education or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in education, emergency management, or other public safety related field at the state, county or local level

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Three (3) years experience working in education, emergency management, or other public safety related field at the state, county or local level

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable insured automobile for authorized travel

Preferred Licenses or Certifications

  • Professional Emergency Manager (PEM) designation through the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division.
