Our Concessionaires/Runners take on the fast paced work to support the Food & Beverage operation of Harrah’s Cherokee Center concessions stands on site in downtown Asheville. Work involves preparing and serving food, while maintaining a sanitized and safe work environment for patrons and other team members. Work also may involve proper handling and serving of alcoholic beverages in accordance with the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement regulations. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Employees will complete an alcohol server and seller training program (TIPS) to understand and follow all Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville and Alcohol Law Enforcement rules and regulation. This is a great opportunity to learn new skills and/or use your existing skills to keep the various events at Harrah’s running smoothly. Work is performed under supervision of the Concession Stand Supervisor or Bar Manager.
Pay: $15.00 per hour, plus tips.
Schedule: Days and hours vary depending on the event schedule, some flexibility based on your availability.
Benefits: This is a temporary/seasonal position and is NOT eligible for benefits, paid leave time (vacation, sick, holiday) nor participation in the retirement system.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Our Concessionaires must exercise independent judgment, discretion, and initiative as well as tact and keen problem solving skills. The ideal candidate will also understand the importance of teamwork in creating success. Employees will be in frequent contact with the general public and City officials while performing their duties.
- Helps prepare the concession stand or portable location for Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville events.
- Check and ensure proper identification of patrons to purchase alcohol.
- Prepares food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to patrons for consumption.
- Operates Point-of-Sale terminals to record cash and credit card sales.
- Reconciles cash and credit card sales with reported amounts from Point-of-Sale terminals.
- Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment, food and beverages needs.
- Ability to answer customers’ questions about food and beverages served.
- Establish excellent customer service skills to all patrons.
- Work with team members to assist in cleaning location upon completion of events.
- Assist Stand Manager, Bar Manager or Management in other related duties.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent and prior bartending or food-service experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience required to perform the essential position functions. Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- General knowledge of the methods of handling foods and beverages for concessions sales and safe handling of industrial cooking equipment.
- Ability to maintain high standards of personal cleanliness and cleanliness of facilities and meet required sanitation procedures outlined by the NC Health Department.
- Ability to perform moderate physical labor and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.
- Ability to reconcile cash and credit card sales taken in with Point-of-Sale reports.
- Responsibly facilitate alcohol sales to customers after undergoing TIPS training program and the ability to adhere to all venue and NC Alcohol Law Enforcement rules and regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and team oriented environment.
