Summary of Job
Employee is responsible for the daily operation and supervision of the toboggan slides, sled-saucer hills, ice rink and All-purpose building. Must be able to meet and serve public patrons in a cheerful and effective manner.
Tasks Routinely Performed
Enforce Winter Sports Area rules and regulations at the Winter Sports Area both inside and outside the building in a consistent manner.
Ensure the safety of all sledders, tobogganers and skaters, assist all those who need help.
Ensure that the inside and outside area around the all-purpose building is in clean and in attractive condition.
Perform first-aid as necessary and immediately record all information in detail on an Injury Report form.
Follow Universal precautions for infection control as stated in the Winter Sports employee manual.
Keep order in building, allow noise but not rowdyism.
Conduct work in a safe manner and adhere to all safety policies.
The toboggan slides, saucer and sled hills, ice rink and ski trails are prepared and inspected each morning by the City of Stevens Point Parks and Recreation employees. (If the above mentioned does not pass inspection or is found to be unsafe, they don’t open.)
Prior to the park opening, all employees must do a safety check of the ice rinks, toboggan slides, saucer/sled hills, and exit steps on hills and warming house building to ensure patron safety. Check them periodically throughout the day for deterioration/wear or sudden temperature changes. Staff will close areas down immediately if unsafe conditions exist.
All employees will inspect toboggans prior to park opening and throughout the day. Remove toboggans in need of repair and place in brown storage building. (All toboggans in need of repairs should be placed in the All-purpose building after Sunday night closing so park staff can repair them first thing Monday morning). Staff may perform minor toboggan maintenance daily as time permits. (Rope and screw repairs only)
All employees will clean entire building at closing. This includes tables, restrooms, kitchen area, counter tops, vending machines, etc. Sweep and mop all floors. Make sure all brooms, shovels, signs, coats and equipment is put away properly.
Qualifications
Must be able to maintain control over Winter Sports Area Park, and be familiar with building regulations and safety requirements.
Ability to demonstrate good public relations skills.
Ability to get along and work with fellow employees.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to work in cold, rain, snow and damp conditions.
Ability to work days, evenings and weekends as required.
Ability to bend, twist, and squat occasionally for 4-9 hours per day and be able to lift 50-100 pounds.
Ability to read/write and follow verbal and written directions.
Ability to continuously walk or stand for 4-9 hours.
Knowledge of basic First Aid .
Winter Sports staff shall be responsible, in all matters, to the Supervisor on duty; he/she is ultimately responsible to the Park Maintenance Supervisor.
