SUMMARY OF POSITION
Responsible for day-to-day maintenance at Hayes Park Arena and Sports Arena. Ensures safe and proper equipment operations, completes maintenance work projects within the arenas, and assists with training on equipment operation and work processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs maintenance at Hayes Park Arena and Sports Arena, including ice resurfacer, refrigeration equipment, hockey boards, skate sharpener, and mechanical equipment. Assists with the change from ice to dry floor activities and back.
2. Facilitates communication regarding arena maintenance operations with Arena Manager.
3. Provides technical advice, assistance, and service related to arena maintenance operations.
4. Performs tasks and functions normally assigned within the maintenance division as a member of a work crew.
5. Handles money and makes change for skate rentals, skate sharpening, admission fees, and other services.
6. Trains workers on safe and proper operations of arena equipment. Complies with all appropriate safety rules and regulations, including OSHA standards, City safety standards, and all other appropriate state and Federal Safety regulations.
7. Maintains records for equipment, materials, work assignments and other maintenance records as required.
8. Works with the public and has excellent people skills needed to provide strong customer service and promote the facilities.
9. Performs other duties consistent with the tasks of the position as assigned by the City.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 18 years of age or older.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and other City employees.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective customer service relationships with members of the general public.
• Working knowledge of appropriate safety regulations and ability to apply on the job.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in arena maintenance operations, especially in a municipal setting.
• Computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft office.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

• Work is preformed outdoors and indoors as required with exposure to extreme weather elements.
• Primary job functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
• Ability to independently and repeatedly lift, move and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to carry equipment up and down stairs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Reports to: Arena Manager.
Pay: Starting pay rate dependent on qualifications.
Schedule: Seasonal position assignment, up to a maximum of 7 months. Flexible hours up to 40 per week with some weekend and holiday work required. Occasional overtime may be required.
Union: Position is represented by AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) and subject to applicable provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
