Non-exempt; seasonal part-time position estimated to work approximately 30 hours per week from April – November 1, 2023; variable hours and work schedule (Monday – Friday; 2:30 pm – 10:30 pm.; Saturday – Sunday; 7:00 am – 10:30 pm.) no benefits
This position will perform a wide variety of duties providing park presence, monitoring visitor activities, performing opening/closing duties, including basic custodial tasks, monitor the synthetic turf facilities as well as other areas of the park which includes; shelters, dog parks, sports fields, playgrounds, trails and common areas. Supervision is received from the Park Ranger Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate sports fields, facility and equipment access and set up for community user groups (Open and close sports facilities for athletic field reservations; set up and clear athletic field(s) when required
- Conduct regular inspections and report hazardous or unsafe conditions of athletic and park facilities; perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the facility
- Maintain inventory of restroom supplies
- Monitor park rules as outlined by the Division of Parks and Recreation and County Codes
- Monitor athletic field use policies and procedures and synthetic field rules and regulations
- Monitor synthetic turf facilities, grass sports fields, shelters, dog parks, trails and other common areas of the park
- Administer first aid as needed; address all emergency situations, including weather
- Monitor the facility to ensure that participants conform to established standards for conduct and county codes
- Ensure that the facility is left in order, all equipment is accounted for, properly cleaned and stored at the end of each activity
- Open parks; access park grounds and shelters to determine if maintenance/clean-up is needed prior to visitor use; perform clean-up tasks to include trash removal, bathroom cleaning and shelter cleaning
- Secure gates and park at closing time by ensuring all visitors have left, all buildings and gates are locked
- Coordinate with Park Ranger staff in the event of an observed code violation or emergency
- Perform other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

- Minimum age 18 years
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to become certified within 90 days of hire and to maintain certifications thereafter
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft office software
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public
- Effective spoken and written (English) communication skills including the ability to accurately maintain schedules and complete forms, and to provide information and direction to park users
- Ability to represent the division and Fredrick County in a positive manner
- Ability to effectively communicate to large groups of children, adults, spectators, and coaches
PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:
- Possession of CPR / First Aid certifications
- Prior experience in a park facility setting
- Direct prior customer service work experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
- While working in this position, the employee is constantly reaching, frequently walking, lifting up to 20 pounds; occasionally riding bicycles, sitting, stooping/kneeling/crouching, lifting over 50 pounds, pushing over 40 pounds, pulling over 40 pounds and performing repetitive motions
- While working in this position, the employee is constantly working outdoors; occasionally working in hot temperatures (above 100 degrees Fahrenheit), in dirty and dusty environmental conditions, with potential exposure to infectious diseases and rarely walks on uneven ground and in a noisy environment.
