Summary
The City of Soldotna has immediate openings for Seasonal Parks & Rec Learn to Skate Instructors. These positions are open until filled. First review of applications will be on August 23, 2023.
The Learn to Skate Instructor position, under the direction of the Sports Center Activities Coordinator, is responsible for teaching pre-beginner to advanced lessons using Ice Skating Institute (ISI) guidelines. The Instructor will also assist in the testing and advancement of Learn to Skate participants.
Detailed Work Activities
- Teach skaters of all ages skating skills according to the guidelines of the Learn to Skate School program
- Demonstrate Skating Skills
- Provide assistance to patrons.
- Provide direction in the event of an emergency.
- Provide verbal and written reports to the Sports Center Activities Coordinator.
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with skaters and SRSC patrons
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to understand and communicate work instructions.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers.
- Ability to properly advise skaters on appropriate equipment use.
Qualifications
- Must be an ISI member and complete ISI SafeSport within 10 days of hire date.
- Instructor must have basic to advanced skating proficiency as related to levels of skaters to be taught.
Work Environment:
Schedule includes days, evening and weekends. Conditions fluctuate between office environment and ice rink environment. Employee may be exposed to significant levels of noise within the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex. Use of chemicals such as Freon®ethylene glycol, urea, cleaning agents and solvents is common onsite. Safety equipment will be provided to protect employee from chemical, noise and other hazards.
Physical Demands:
- Employee is regularly required to stand and skate on the ice for long periods of time while observing and instructing students.
- Employee must be able to bend, stoop, twist, jump and balance while instructing students on various jumps and turns.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds while on ice skates on ice rink
