Boulder County’s Parks and Open Space (POS) Trails Crew is seeking motivated three (3) Seasonal Trails Technicians to assist with a variety of projects on our sustainable trails systems. We work on 120+ miles of recreational and regional trail systems that immerse you into the beautiful mountains and plains. We are an inclusive crew with many combined years of experience and a fun-loving attitude. The work we do is rewarding, community driven, and caters to a variety of user groups. This is a hourly, non-benefited position with Boulder County that will run approximately from mid-May to mid-October. This position will work Monday – Thursday from 7:00am to 5:30pm. This position will work out of POS headquarters, located at 5201 St. Vrain Road, Longmont, CO 80503. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime).

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hourly Range: $20.04 hourly

Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • First Round Interviews: June 27th

Examples of Duties

  1. Performs construction and maintenance tasks on natural and improved surface trails
  2. Performs semi-skilled and some skilled duties in the operation of hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, and vehicles
  3. May perform general maintenance and construction on other park facilities
  4. May perform construction and maintenance tasks on trailheads and parking lots
  5. Performs related work as required and other duties as assigned
  6. May be reassigned in emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.

DRIVER’S LICENSE:

  • Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and current automobile insurance

PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL:

  • Applicants must pass a pre-employment physical

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 year of One year of trails or parks maintenance and construction experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements described below are representative of those that must be met by an applicant to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position. Frequently lifts up to 50 lbs. and carries up to 100 feet (may be performed by two person lift); occasionally lifts up to 80 lbs. from floor to waist; frequently lifts up to 32 lbs. from shoulder to overhead; occasionally pushes and pulls items weighing up to 100 lbs.; frequently lifts and lowers wheelbarrow with 160 lbs. load; occasionally performs bi-lateral lift of 60 lbs. and carries up to 50 ft.; frequently lifts up to 35 lbs. from waist level and lowers to floor. Frequently bends at waist, squats, kneels, shovels, and rakes. Occasionally climbs ladder; must be able to stand and balance on ladder; occasionally walks over uneven terrain.
