NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range

$75,900 – $125,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Organization 03654, Media Relations and Emergency Communication, is currently seeking a strategic, analytical, and creative Web Content Specialist to help ensure the content of the Laboratories’ websites are accessible, meet Section 508 and web standards, and are written in plain language. The Web Content Specialist will work closely with the Media Relations and Communications team and internal partners to develop and implement strategies to improve the overall quality of web content and written products. One will be able to use their web insights to develop tactics that broaden the reach and relevance of web content for employees, the public, and Sandia customers.

Successful candidates will have a strong interest in and knowledge of communication principles and standards, have experience writing and editing for the web, and can synthesize complex scientific and technical subjects into compelling communications for diverse audiences.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Review and edit existing website content to ensure it meets Section 508 and web best practices, including accessibility guidelines and plain language writing style and tone
  • Create and edit new website content that adheres to Sandia’s brand standards, content guidelines, strategies, and is optimized for search engines
  • Conduct regular website reviews to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations to content owners
  • Serve as a liaison to Sandia’s Information Technology Services Center for web content, digital services related projects, and troubleshooting technical issues
  • Work with subject matter experts to ensure technical content is written in a clear and concise manner that is understandable to a general audience
  • Provide feedback and guidance to writers, editors, and content owners on following organizational style guidelines
  • Coordinate with web developers to ensure that website design, information architecture, navigation, and functionality is accessible and user-friendly
  • Collaborate with IT to develop and implement web governance that includes policies, procedures, and workflows for website content
  • Assist with analyzing, testing, planning, implementing, and maintaining web-based content management systems
  • Monitor website analytics to track website traffic and identify areas for improvement, and report on the site’s standards compliance and user engagement with content

The selected applicant can be a virtual worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required.

Qualifications We Require

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Journalism, Humanities, Technical Writing, Business, Science, Engineering, a Computing-related field, or a degree in a technical field, plus 5 years related experience or writing for a broad, public audience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job
  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire

  • A Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Journalism, Humanities, Technical Writing, Business, Science, Engineering, a Computing-related field, or a degree in a technical field
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a proven track record to initiate and complete work independently and in collaboration with multiple levels of management and staff
  • Demonstrated experience in writing for the web and creating accessible web content that meets Section 508 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines; knowledge of the Plain Writing Act of 2010 and applicable laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of content management systems and web development
  • Experience evaluating new media efforts and assisting with implementing initiatives designed to use new and existing technologies to better communicate with various audiences
  • A strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with daily content production
  • Knowledge of Sandia’s programs, missions, and technical accomplishments
  • An excellent command of English grammar and spelling
  • Excellent organizational and recordkeeping abilities
  • Cross-disciplinary skills in developing communication and digital products, including the ability to work effectively with subject matter experts and customers
  • Knowledge of website analytics tools and the ability to use data to make informed decisions

Security Clearance

Position Information

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia’s discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
