Job Summary
The role of the Senior Academic Support Coordinator is to work with the Graduate Studies team members, the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, and degree program leadership on the full cycle of a student’s experience, from recruitment through graduation.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and six or more years of experience in higher education, preferably supporting graduate programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
A graduate degree or progress towards a graduate degree. Experience providing academic advising or counseling services in higher education. Understanding of the functions of higher education including academic advising and student affairs. Knowledge of student development theories, advising strategies and/or best practices in student advising. Knowledge of student recruiting strategies, including managing a database and communication with prospective students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
• Cooperates with administrators, program heads, faculty members and appropriate staff in providing for academic advising needs of individuals or groups of The Bass School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology graduate students, including the students in the ATEC MA, PhD and MFA programs in Animation & Games, Game Development, and Design & Creative Practice.
• Advises students about their educational plan requirements and options as well as available resources available to succeed. Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals. Audits degree plans as required. Ensures requirements are met for each graduation applicant. Registers students for classes as necessary. Assists with the completion of any forms or paperwork as necessitated by the needs of each student.
• Helps maintain and process Teaching Assistantships, including record keeping, assignment documentation, and more.
• Engages in recruiting activities such as answering prospective student inquiries, drafting materials, coordinating info sessions, or attending off-site recruiting events on behalf of graduate programs in the Bass School.
• Processes application inquiries, applications, and materials necessary for admission committee review of applicants. Facilitates and manages documentation and activities to support matriculation of those admitted.
• Maintains channels of communication with graduate alumni and keeps records of placement, alumni engagement, and so forth.
• Helps envision, organize, and participate in student success initiatives, such as lecture series, career spotlights, student presentations, and more.
• Participates in appropriate professional conferences and individual professional development.
