Summary:
Winchester Public Schools, a city school division with approximately 4,400 students and 741 full time employees, is seeking a Senior Accountant to work in the Central Administrative Offices. The successful candidate will assist the Director of Finance by performing accounting functions in order to support the Winchester Public Schools finance related functions.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Documents payments and expenditures for all grants within the office (Title I, Title II, Title III, Title IV, School Improvement, Extended Learning and all others) and prepares bi-monthly budget reports.
- Maintains fixed asset records and reconciles financial records to actual assets on hand.
- Assist and provide backup to other senior accountants when needed.
- Reviews, audits, and prepares reports on varied accounts, including tracing errors and resolving discrepancies; interprets and applies instructions and guidelines to specific situations.
- Maintains and tracks grant budgets (aligned with OMEGA) for the department; monitors expenditures and performs analyses on accounts.
- Responsible for reconciling billing discrepancies, balancing accounts and closing out account.
- Prepares reimbursement request to submit to the Director of Finance to review and approve.
- Responsible for preparing grant amendments to the Director of Finance for review.
- Inventories all division resources purchased using State and Federal Funding to ensure proper receipt and distribution.
- Trains school based staff on preparing and maintaining required state and federal programs documents necessary for auditing purposes.
- Provides all office financial management including but not limited to: preparing purchase orders, requisitions, vouchers, budget forms, travel forms and other financial data.
- Performs general clerical tasks including: preparing correspondence to be sent to school personnel, filing, ordering supplies, creating agendas, monthly timesheets, effort logs, copying, making travel arrangements and preparation of other documents for distributions.
- Prepares reports and documents for auditors as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
At least a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. Combination of training and experience in area of accounting and payroll functions. Experience using automated accounting system preferred.

Salary:
Salary range is $50,603 – 105,023 based on the 2023-2024 salary scale. An additional stipend will be available for a post graduate degree.
