About The Opportunity
Our client in the biotech industry is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join their team. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for supporting the Company`s general ledger close process for areas such as cash, investments, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accruals, intercompany transactions, and other general accounting responsibilities such as payroll. The successful candidate will be a strong team player who is detail oriented and can pivot when needed. The candidate will be expected to apply the Company`s accounting policies to ensure an accurate, high quality and efficient monthly and quarterly financial close.
Salary: $90,000-$110,000
Please note this range is an estimate and actual pay may vary based on qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities:
- Support all aspects of the monthly close process including the preparation of journal entries.
- Performs general ledger reconciliations, reconciliation of all Balance Sheet accounts including intercompany accounts.
- Analyze expenses and accruals to ensure transactions are recorded appropriately.
- Manage fixed assets including depreciation calculations, additions, disposals and roll forward schedules.
- Work collaboratively with FP&A and other functions to obtain the necessary data and inputs to complete the monthly close.
- Support the preparation of monthly and quarterly reporting including providing flux commentary.
- Support audits by providing appropriate documentation and interacting with the external auditors.
- Record invoices to the proper accounting periods and GL accounts in accordance with company policy and GAAP.
- Review and determine the accounting for all clinical agreements, including but not limited to CRO contracts, consultant contracts, protocols, investigator clinical trial agreements, laboratory service providers, and supporting technology platforms
- Analyze the sufficiency of prepaid and accrued expense account balances related to clinical programs while maintaining clear detailed support for balances
- Review clinical and study purchase orders to ensure adherence to the contract terms and appropriate inclusion in the clinical and study accounting/accrual records.
- Support AP as needed.
- Perform ad-hoc analysis and projects as required.
- Identify and drive process improvements, including system enhancements.
- Assess prepaid balances for accuracy on a quarterly basis.
- Review vendor requests for payments against contracts and work performed.
- Monitor and communicate spend/expense recognition against open purchase orders.
- Additional duties assigned as needed.
Qualifications:
- BS/BA degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA preferred (active or inactive).
- 5-7+ years experience progressive experience in the described contributions required.
- 3 years within the pharmaceutical industry or biotechnology industries.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
- Collaboration, teamwork, and passion to build.
- Motivated to work in a fast-paced, high accountability environment.
- Demonstrated agility to learn and prioritize multiple responsibilities independently.
- Strong oral & written communications skills.
- Good presentation skills for diverse audiences.
- Ability to strike a balance between independent work and team interaction, be a team player in a cross-functional team.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Prior ERP experience, preferably NetSuite.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other productivity tools with an aptitude to learn new software and systems; ability to work with large databases.
