General Description
The City of Green Bay’s Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department is seeking a Senior Animal Keeper to perform work of moderate difficulty in participation in the daily routine care and maintenance of the Wildlife Sanctuary’s animal rehabilitation and exhibit birds and animals. This position also provides wildlife education information to visitors through tours and live animal programs.
Work Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday with shifts varying between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (40 hours per week), plus additional hours as required.
No Residency Requirement.

Examples of Duties
- Responsible for daily care and maintenance of all assigned live animals and physical structures in which they are housed.
- Cares for and administers medical treatment of injured, orphaned and sick wildlife brought in by the general public.
- Assists with the supervision of animal keepers, volunteers, wildlife rehabilitation specialists, enrichment/training specialist, and summer maintenance employees in the same activities while on duty.
- Assists in supervising the Visitor Specialists in the Observation Building relating to questions and information about wildlife and animals.
- Responsible for maintenance of daily records and files of animal husbandry.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology or closely related field.
- One to two years experience in a zoologically related field or animal husbandry.
- Supervisory experience beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Broad knowledge of principles and practices of animal husbandry and wildlife management and environment. Skill in animal handling, and wildlife veterinary medical procedures. Skill in directing volunteers and seasonal and specialist staff.
- Good ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to work the required hours of the position.
May be required to demonstrate minimum competency by successfully passing approved tests.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to perform the following activities:
- Lifting and carrying up to 50-100 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, crawling and stooping.
- Ability to focus for long period of time on projects.
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions.
