Position Summary:
The Business Unit Accounting & Controls – Annuities team of the Corporate Controllers Department acts as a finance business partner to the Guaranteed Products business unit (“GP”), supporting accounting, financial reporting, and business unit operational functions. The GP businesses at New York Life provide fixed income investment products to institutional investors seeking high quality, low volatility, and stable returns.
The role is as a finance partner to the GP business unit and will assist the team with the financial close, business result analyses, performing various calculations, and many aspects of the GP operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
This position will be responsible for the following primary responsibilities:
- Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Stewardship of the Group Annuity business general ledgers (STAT and Management Earnings).
- Produce monthly and quarterly financial reports, assisting with analysis of the results.
- Assist in the completion of statutory financial reports.
- Utilize the product administrative system to research differences, identify errors, and test system enhancements.
- Responsible for various rates, fees, and other calculations for Group Annuity products.
- Review co-sourcing partner’s work and provide timely feedback.
- Continuously seek faster and more efficient delivery of data and analytics.
- Participate in special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Accounting or Finance.
- 3-5 years of financial reporting experience.
- Industrious self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, multitasking and prioritization skills.
- Must possess an open mind and be adaptable to new tasks and procedures.
- Must have exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrate high level of self-awareness, professionalism, and integrity with all internal and external parties.
- Strong Excel skills required. Skills working on SQL queries and other reporting/analytical tools such as Tableau are a plus.
- Proficiency in SAP, the general ledger system, is a plus.
Salary range: $58,500-$85,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
