New York Life’s primary distribution channel is the career Agency sales force of more than 12,000 agents, operating in virtually every major city in the United States. Every agent is affiliated with one of our 115 General Offices. These offices are operated by Agency management teams responsible for agent and management recruiting, development, and sales. Approximately half our agents operate their businesses out of our General Offices, while the other half maintains independent office locations.
Our General Offices are divided up among four Zones. In addition to our Zone offices, an Agency Home Office team responsible for strategy, finance, administration, standards, training, marketing and communications supports our agents and field managers. The Agency operation also comprises teams charged with growing our business in key market segments, including the middle-income market, the advanced (high-net-worth) market, and select cultural markets. Agents sell individual life insurance, individual annuities, and long-term care insurance products, as well as mutual funds.
Role Overview
- Maintain working knowledge across various product lines.
- Articulate customer financial needs and goals including:
- Analyze clients’ financial statuses (e.g., net worth, cash flow, etc.).
- Examine and suggest financial opportunities (e.g., insurance plans, investments).
- Develop sound plans and budgets for clients.
- Customize financial plans according to clients’ changing needs.
- Present and position suitable financial products and services.
- Collaborate with key business partners to support prospecting and lead efforts:
- Build strong relationships to retain existing clients.
- Generate new business and build relationships.
- Assist Agents, Development Managers, and Field Managers with planning approach and developing credibility with consumers.
- Maintain updated knowledge of regulations, practices, and financial products.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as financial planner or similar role; experience in sales or customer service is a plus.
- Attention to detail and strong math skills.
- Ability to analyze financial information and create a deliverable, while complying with regulations.
- Knowledge/proficient in power point creation, MS Office and CRM systems.
- Strong ethics, with a customer-oriented attitude.
- Talent development and coaching skills, a plus.
- Ability to foster long-term relationships.
- Valid Professional licenses (e.g. Series 7 & 66).
- BS/BA in accounting, finance, business administration or relevant field preferred; professional certifications, CFP or ChFC, a plus.
Salary range: $90,000-$135,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
