NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Salary Range
$56,100 – $125,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Organization 03651, Internal, Digital & Executive Communications, is looking for an innovative and strategic communications professional to join Sandia’s dedicated, creative, and conscientious team responsible for crafting Labswide messages that reach a diverse, multigenerational workforce of 15,000 Sandians.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to shape engaging content for employees around the Labs’ mission, work and the exceptional community of Sandians. You will contribute to the Labs’ award-winning digital publications, executive messages and the employee intranet.
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in and knowledge of effective communication principles and standards, have experience in news writing and editing and writing for the web, and can synthesize complex technical subjects into compelling communications for diverse audiences. You should be able to prioritize work, meet daily and weekly deadlines, manage projects and adapt to other duties as assigned.
On any given day, one may be called upon to:
- Plan, prepare, and administer communications for internal audiences to enhance the Sandia experience for employees
- Work with, interview and advise executive management, and program leads to determine specific communication needs, including message development and delivery, and how best to implement official communications
- Research, write, work with others to produce visuals, and disseminate information using a variety of modern communication vehicles both print and web-based, and ensure communication vehicles evolve to meet Sandia’s growing communication demands
- Select, write and review announcements, special articles and publications, and recommend and maintain corporate editorial policy
- Track, collect and analyze metrics to advise effectiveness of communications, research industry best practices, and make recommendations for improvements
- Be on call for Sandia’s Emergency Operations Center periodically as an emergency public information officer, including serving as a spokesperson with news media during emergencies
- Advise others on how to communicate to a variety of audiences on behalf of Sandia
This position is eligible for telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Qualifications We Require
- A Bachelor’s degree in a Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, Humanities, Technical Writing, Business, Science, Engineering, or a computing-related field; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job
- The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
Writing samples and a writing test may be requested for candidates selected for interviews.
Qualifications We Desire
- A Master’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, Humanities, Technical Writing, Business, STEM, or a relevant field
- Certifications in public relations, writing, or storytelling
- Skills in writing, editing, oral communications, and basic graphic design
- Experience with AP Style and corporate style guides
- Experience with website content management tools (e.g., WordPress), email communication tools, or internal communications platforms
- An understanding of internal communications metrics and how to use them to drive communications strategy
- A proven ability to work in and bring clarity to environments with complex, ambiguous, or constantly evolving communications requirements
- Demonstrated experience creating content that connects with diverse audiences at all levels of an organization
- The ability to collaborate successfully with individuals, from executives to staff and peers
- The ability to multitask, set priorities, and deliver strong results
- The ability to translate technical or domain-specific concepts and material into compelling and persuasive communications products
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint
- Knowledge of SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and Confluence
- Knowledge of Sandia’s programs, missions, and technical accomplishments
- The ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia’s core values
About Our Team
The Sandia National Laboratories Communications center is responsible for all public and Labswide communications functions for a $4 billion national security lab with about 15,000 employees and major sites in New Mexico and California. These positions are contributors to a diverse and engaged laboratories communications team. The internal Digital & Executive Communications Department serves as the point of contact for critical and conventional internal communications from executive and emergency messaging to corporate and operational messaging. The department maintains the primary Labswide employee communications channels and supports program communicators who are matrixed to organizations across the Labs.

Security Clearance
