Senior Associate, Statutory Accounting and Reporting

Position Description:

The mission of Accounting and Controllership – Statutory Accounting and Reporting Division of the Corporate Controllers Department is ensuring all quarterly and annual statutory financial reporting deliverables are provided in a timely manner and the needs of our stakeholders are met. The team works closely with other areas of the finance department and business units to gain a full understanding of the financial statements and statutory reports for each insurance entity. The candidate will work directly with internal/external auditors and Accounting Policy team to ensure the financial statements and statutory reports for each insurance subsidiary are in accordance with NAIC and audit requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and review of the statutory face financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement)
  • Completion of footnote disclosures, disclosure checklists, data collection management and variance/trend analysis support for insurance subsidiaries.
  • Participating in the entire end-to-end process of planning, coordinating, preparing, and reviewing the annual and quarterly financial statements.
  • Managing/monitoring all work performed by our co-source partner.
  • Continuously seeking faster and more efficient delivery of data and analytics, as well as more effective controller & business insights.
  • Some interaction with our external auditor, PwC, related to their performance of the annual financial statement audits.
  • Adherence with MAR/SOX compliance including documenting, testing, and reviewing controls and procedures.
  • Participating in special projects as needed.
  • Coordinating the representation letter process for the financial statements.
  • Coordinating and reviewing production of internal financial results package.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (a master’s degree is desirable but not required).
  • At least 3 – 5 years of financial reporting experience in the insurance or reinsurance industries or public accounting.
  • Understanding of Statutory accounting rules, procedures and internal controls and keeps up to date with current trends is a plus
  • Experience preparing financial statements is a must
  • Understanding of best practice reviews, financial controls, SOX/MARS
  • Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint and other reporting, analytical or programming tools is crucial to facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of Statutory Bluebook financial statements
  • State filing compliance work a plus
  • Experience with Sovos, WINGS software, SAP General Ledger system, and/or Workiva Wdesk software is a plus
  • A self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills who demonstrates a high level of self-awareness, professionalism and integrity in all interactions is required.
  • Must possess an open mind and be adaptable to new tasks and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and solve complex problems with limited supervision

Salary range: $72,500-$107,500

Overtime eligible: Exempt

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
