Candidates must have a juris doctorate and be a member in good standing with the Florida Bar.
Additional requirements:
Minimum two (2) years of legal experience
Preference will be given for the following:
Candidates who possess Florida administrative litigation, rule-making, or legislative experience.
Appointment salary will be $75,000.00 annually.
This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.
Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
1. Handles complex and involved litigation against various entities regulated by the office. Handles complex and involved opinions in these areas. Handles other matters as assigned.
2. In-House Counsel. Provides counsel to other regulatory staff on complex and involved matters affecting the regulation of insurers. Handles complex and involved in-house opinions in areas under the jurisdiction of the office. Performs other related duties as assigned.
3. Rules. Handles all legal aspects of complex and involved rule promulgation including drafting, analysis, research, hearings and rule challenges. Handles complex and involved opinions on rules. Handles other matters as assigned.
4. Legislation. Handles complex and involved legislation including drafting, analysis, research, hearings, and passage. Handles complex and involved opinions on legislation. Handles other matters as assigned.
5. Public assistance. Handles complex and involved issues and questions affecting the public generally. Handles other matters as assigned.
6. Litigation/Appeals/Hearing Officers. Represents the office in complex and involved litigation before Division of Administrative Hearings and in state, circuit and federal district courts and in appellate courts. Acts as hearing officer, when assigned. Handles other matters assigned.
7. Orders. Prepares final orders and other orders regarding complex and involved matters. Handles other matters as assigned.
8. Other. Provides mentorship to less experienced attorneys.
9. Supervisor. Direct responsibility and authority to supervise, instruct, counsel, and evaluate employees, recommendation of pay increases and to take disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal. Provides leadership to the office.
10. Assignments. Makes work assignments and aids in the distribution and monitoring of assignments within the Division.
11. Recruiting. Assists with recruiting and hiring of senior attorneys and support staff.
