SENIOR ATTORNEY – WORKPLACE RETIREMENT Plans

The FMR LLC Legal Department is seeking to hire a senior attorney to join the Workplace Investing legal team to provide legal support for all aspects of Fidelity’s defined contribution plan recordkeeping and trust business, primarily focusing on tax and ERISA issues but also including federal securities law, privacy law and various other laws as they relate to workplace retirement plans. You will support the creation, enhancement and maintenance of retirement products and services and further enterprise goals and initiatives in collaboration with multiple groups across Fidelity, including product, operations, relationship management, client experience, risk, compliance, finance, sales, marketing, and technology.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • JD and at least 15 years of relevant law firm, industry, or regulatory experience.
  • In-depth working knowledge of employee benefits law, focusing on Internal Revenue Code (“IRC”) qualified retirement plan provisions, ERISA, and applicable regulations. Experience with securities laws, privacy law and other laws as they relate to employee benefit plans is helpful.
  • Experience with IRC 403(b), 457, and 409A plans is beneficial.
  • Experience with collective investment funds and other plan asset vehicles and applicable ERISA fiduciary and prohibited transaction rules is also beneficial.
  • Excellent presentation and oral communication skills, with ability to influence and collaborate with diverse groups of internal clients, including senior executives, as well as external clients.
  • Strong work ethic, excellent judgment, and keen attention to detail.
  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • Strong analytical, investigatory, and problem-solving skills.
  • Admitted to practice, or willing to secure bar admission, in the relevant jurisdiction(s).

  • Analyze legislative and regulatory changes related to employee benefit plans and advise on implementation strategies.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for plan document and client contract drafting, interpretation, and negotiation.
