The Opportunity

As the Senior Business Development Manager, you will support the newly formed Just Climate and Energy Transitions (C&E) portfolio within the Global Development Division. You will play an integral role in managing and supporting the business development life cycle with key clients including USAID and FCDO.

Core Responsibilities

  • Partners with Vice President (VP), the Global Business Development Unit (GBDU) and the Abt Growth Office to define business development priorities and ensure success across the Climate and Energy sectors.
  • Leads pipeline development and collaborates with the Vice President, Business Development Executive, and the Global Business Development Unit on the day-to-day management of BD priorities.
  • Supports and participates in client outreach/relationship management and marketing.
  • Provides input into bid/no-bid decisions.
  • Oversees progress and quality assurance on capture/bid efforts for the region.
  • Serves in proposal line roles such as proposal manager and/or as a writer for technical, management, personnel and other proposal sections.
  • Ensures effective staffing of bid/capture efforts and coaches capture/proposal team members.
  • Conducts and reviews long-term and short-term strategic research that informs client engagement and the region’s portfolio growth strategy.
  • Liaises with potential partners and funders and negotiates subcontractor arrangements.
  • Serves as primary BD liaison for Portfolio and VP internally and collaborates with other BD partners across Global Development Division.
  • Support the day-to-day operations and management of business development across the portfolio.
  • Leads data analysis, reporting, and knowledge management to inform business development strategy and operations.
  • Manages a database of partners, setting up meetings and facilitating relationships.
  • Ensures new business files, resources, tools are up to date and effectively utilized.
  • Supports internal training to develop competencies across a variety of BD roles.
  • Directly supervise two business development specialists.

What We Value

  • Bachelor’s degree + 12 years of experience or master’s degree +10 years of experience in international development.
  • At least 9 years of experience in business development and proposal development in the donor-funded international development field, with increasing levels of responsibility and oversight.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in all aspects of USAID marketplace capture and proposal processes, including staffing, teaming, client analysis and outreach, strategy, writing, pricing, reviews, production and negotiations.
  • Experience managing and winning bids in the climate and energy sector.
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem solving, and organizational skills with excellent writing and computer skills.
  • A passion for excellence and a commitment to quality.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • French or Arabic language skills preferred but not required.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $105,120 to $168,192 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
