Summer Program Counselor

Description

Under general direction of Recreation Director and Program Director; plans, coordinates, conducts, and supervises the activities and operation of a full day summer program for children in grades K-6. Oversee a small group of children to ensure their safety and that they are engaged in fun summer activities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises program attendants to ensure they are enjoying their experience and safe.
  • Assist with the daily operations of the day to day schedule.
  • Plans and coordinates a comprehensive program schedule that includes, but is not limited to activities such as arts and crafts, games, sports, outdoor recreation, etc.
  • Assisting with the set up, break down and cleaning of program operations
  • Supporting all program attendants and other tasks as determined by the Director and Assistant Director.
  • Lead games and activities appropriate to the participants’ age range.
  • Prepares daily schedules, records and reports as requested.
  • Enforces all program rules and regulations pertaining to the health and safety of visitors, parents, and participants.
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Administers First Aid as necessary.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age or older and have experience working with children, preferably in a summer or recreational program setting.
  • Previous experience being responsible for others in a programming/camp setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with children of all abilities.
  • Strong leadership skills, sensitive, and responsible.
  • Ability to establish an effective working relationship with parents, employees, and the public.
  • Experience in coordinating, planning, organizing, and implementing activities for children is required.
  • Ability to be flexible and modify activities for children of all abilities.
  • Certified in CPR/First Aid.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records regarding participants’ vital statistics and attendance.
  • Ability to work outdoors in summer heat.

Supplemental Information

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
  • Identify and respond to hazards and traumatic events.
  • Work with different age and skill levels.
  • Assist in the case of an emergency.
  • Must be able to work outside in extreme conditions (heat/noise, etc.).
  • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of patrons
