SUMMARY

Screens applications and clients to determine eligibility and schedules appointments

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Depending on where assigned, may perform any or all of the following:
Reviews applications with clients to determine eligibility for an appointment.
Schedules appointments for eligible clients and provides information on required documentation for clients.
Provides referral information to other community resources when appropriate.
Composes and types standardized and/or non-standardized correspondence and other documents and materials, using word processing software.
Uses spreadsheet and/or data base software to input and retrieve information.
May monitor expenditures to insure that department or division does not exceed budgeted line items.
Establishes and maintains moderately complex records and filing systems, and uses them to prepare statistical, financial activity, and related reports requiring some specialized subject knowledge and/or judgment regarding interpretation or presentation of information.
Conducts research, as needed, to respond to routine and non-routine questions about particular areas of responsibility.
Prepares and issues documents according to established guidelines.
Calculates amounts of payments due according to established guidelines, using data from several sources and using judgment and subject matter expertise to determine if any information is missing or incorrect.
Gathers financial and statistical data and prepares reports of program activities.
Receives and posts payments, and issues receipts.
Undertakes special accounting projects and prepares special reports as assigned.
Provides an accounting of cash balances, ensures that cash balances with receipts issued, and is responsible for resolving most discrepancies independently.
Processes transfers of funds among accounts and/or projects.
Prepares cash and checks for deposit, and makes deposits.
Performs duties of Receptionist, greets the public in person and types service applications and other documents using word processing software.
Employee schedules intake appointments, logs case numbers, prepares and verifies purchase orders for payment.
A Senior Clerk is required to have knowledge of duties performed by a clerk, intermediate clerk, and a senior clerk. This position is also expected to assist the Accounting Assistants as needed.
May perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED); plus a minimum of three years responsible clerical work experience, preferably with a government entity. Education beyond high school is preferred. Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word is required.

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, may be considered for current Nueces County employees only.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: May be required to be bondable and/or hold or obtain certification as a notary public.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain moderately complex records and files and to organize data for reports.
Ability to prepare reports independently, complying with reporting guidelines and using judgment to detect and remedy inconsistencies or other problems.
Ability to proofread for completeness, accuracy and content.
Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations.
Ability to type at a speed of at least 55 words per minute.
Ability to operate a computer using standard word processing data inquiry, or spreadsheet software packages.
Excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to interpret and to apply rules, regulations and statutes to routine and non-routine situations.
Ability to make judgments regarding appropriate response to moderately difficult questions or situations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees and officials and with the general public.
Ability to operate a calculator by touch and/or have specialized terminology or subject matter knowledge.
