Job Description

This full-time position helps facilitate a comprehensive marketing program and assists the Marketing team in the implementation of strategic plans for the promotion and sales of books published by the University of Missouri Press. Overall, the primary function of this position, under the guidance and with the oversight of their supervisor, is to inform the public, scholars, students, retail and wholesale customers about and generate sales of University of Missouri Press books and to provide staffing and administrative assistance in the operation of the department and the organization.

Job Responsibilities Include:
• Solicit blurbs from key scholars, requiring some follow up, as well as accurately updating our title information database, including adding new blurbs, making copy changes, and entering various types of information.
• Publicity outreach to media, alumni magazines, researches appropriate media outlets for book reviews, curates contacts onto media lists on a title-by-title basis, writing press releases, handling individual review and desk copy requests for UMP titles, and evaluation of author marketing questionnaires.
• Write, edit, solicit and post content for the Press’s social media channels, including our blog and website.
• Submit appropriate books to key award programs and researches new award outlets; maintain system for tracking awards, deadlines, books submitted, and awards won.
• Communicate with and respond to basic queries from authors, vendors, customers, and media outlets, informing authors of opportunities to promote, sending samples of completed materials such as, reviews, ads, promotional fliers.
• Distribute all complimentary copies of finished books to authors, contributors, scholars who have read and evaluated manuscripts, and individuals who have provided prepublication endorsements.
• Prepare and deploy marketing emails using an online email marketing platform to an email list of 5,000 subscribers.
• Prepare sales materials for Sales Manager and processing sales commission reports.
• Assist with planning, attend, and staff off site book events and sales, and associated publicity/promotion, as assigned. Some local travel required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Salary

Salary Range: $15.00 (hourly) and $19.00 (hourly)

Grade: GGS 006

Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Associate or Bachelor degree in related competency; proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
