Senior Communications Designer

We are on the lookout for a talented designer to join our close-knit team in Corporate Communications. Representing Corporate Services as trusted advisors, we collaborate closely with marketers, engineers, planners, and other professionals throughout the company to fulfill their communications needs. Together, we create materials that help people make informed decisions, supply actionable advice, and amplify the amazing work of our staff and clients.

Our team is all about collaboration and thinking outside the box. Our creative designers play an active role in our companywide Creative Studio. This group consists of over 20 visual designers and planners who regularly exchange knowledge, ideas, and feedback. Together, we make complex transportation analysis and advancements and companywide initiatives easy to understand.

As a designer on our team, you will have the opportunity to grow alongside experienced professionals while applying your skills and creativity to a wide range of mediums, including web, print, and social media.

Members of the Communications team are spread across markets. This is a hybrid role. Typical in-person collaboration in the local office occurs twice a week, and travel to the corporate office in Walnut Creek, CA occurs at least six times a year.

Responsibilities

    • Collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams, including corporate leaders, project managers, engineers, and urban planners, to understand project requirements and objectives
    • Create easy-to-understand designs from technical data and complex concepts or initiatives to effectively convey messaging across websites, social media platforms, presentations, and other communication materials
    • Champion and guide designs with a consultative approach, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines, consistent perceived value, and adherence to our brand identity
    • Remain current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in visual design, keeping a mindset for continual improvement, and sharing/applying learnings to our work
    • Support the layout and input of internal and external blogs, along with design elements, on websites and company intranet (Microsoft SharePoint)

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in design, visual communications, UI/UX, or a related field
    • 3-6 years of experience designing for cross-functional teams or within the AEC industry
    • Exceptional customer service skills, proving professionalism and a consultative approach with all levels of staff
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Creative Suite
    • Experience with content creation and manipulation in WordPress
    • Excellent visual and written communication skills, with an emphasis on translating complex information into relatable narratives
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and actively listen to feedback
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Passion for creating user-centric, outcome-oriented, and visually striking designs
    • A motivation, self-drive, and eagerness to learn and grow in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
    • Experience within the AEC industry is preferred
    • A design portfolio showcasing relevant design work upon applying

$75,000 – $100,000 a year

The salary range for this position is $75,000-$100,000 per year. Placement within the stated pay range will be determined based upon education, experience, and qualifications.
