Medical Support Manager

Job Description
Position is responsible for assisting the Full-Time Inclusion Team with overseeing participants with medical support needs: monitoring registrations and accommodation requests, editing and creating appropriate support plan documents, routing documents for review/approval, communicating with families regarding appropriate forms & paperwork, managing spreadsheets and electronic files, scheduling staff trainings as necessary, coordinating necessary supplies for support needs, scheduling staff schedules to provide support to participant(s), evaluation of support staff, provide emergency back-up support for support staff, etc. Medical support may be needed for participants with conditions such as Type 1 diabetes, seizure disorders, digestive or urinary system disorders, etc. In some situations, these conditions occur dually with other disability diagnoses.

This position will assist with managing support for participants in summer camp and track out programs, primarily during the months of June, July and August (seasonally). Position hours typically range from 25-45 hours per week during these months and the daily schedule will fall between the hours of 7:00am – 6:30pm, Monday – Friday. Pre-summer hours and required trainings will begin in May and would be approximately 20 hours per week.

Participants will attend programs at various locations around the City. This position will need to travel to various locations to assist with trainings, manage support staff, review participant support needs, and provide back-up medical support.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:

  • Review forms for accommodation requests for medical support;
  • Edit and update appropriate medical management forms;
  • Coordinate with Program Director and Risk Manager regarding appropriate forms and trainings;
  • Communicate with families/guardians regarding completion of appropriate forms;
  • Schedule appropriate trainings with full time staff, part time staff, families/guardians, health care providers, etc.;
  • Manage electronic documents and records;
  • Create inventory of supplies for individual participant support needs;
  • Visit program sites/locations to check on medical support staff, participants, supplies, etc.;
  • Assist with developing medical support staff schedule to ensure trained staff are available to provide appropriate support;
  • In emergency situations, assist with providing support coverage;
  • Provide reporting information to Program Director and Risk Manager as needed.

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED training or ability to obtain upon hire;
  • Exemplary and professional oral and written communication;
  • Enjoy working with children;
  • Ability to calmly and professionally manage emergency situations;
  • Ability to make appropriate situational decisions based on medical management plan;
  • Comfort with providing personal care assistance per the medical management plan;
  • Open availability during the dates/times as outlined previously;
  • Completed degree, certificate or coursework in the following areas highly preferred: phlebotomy, certified nursing assistant, medical assistant, emergency medical technician, medical school, etc.
  • Ability to complete all training requirements prior to start of camp including, a background check and controlled substance screening
  • Must have a valid NC Driver’s License and good driving record
  • Minimum age 18 years old

Additional Information
Position and hours: This position will support participants in various summer camp programs during the months of June, July and August. Mandatory meetings and required trainings will begin mid-May (may be day, evenings, or weekends).? Position hours typically range from 30-50 hours per week. Daily schedule will fall between the hours of 7am – 6:30pm, Monday – Friday. Staff may be assigned to various locations as needed to provide support.
