Senior Data Visualization Developer

Job Description

This position is remote and can sit in the footprint of Providence in the states of AK, WA, OR, CA, TX and MT.

This role provides data visualization expertise as a part of an agile software development and delivery team. This
position focuses on using data visualization tools and theory as part of a holistic end to end approach to delivering
highly available solutions to users. A senior data visualization developer leads exploration and adoption of new design
paradigms, models, and systems that help to continuously improve the capabilities of the team. This includes working
closely with end users and other developers to design, build and deliver complete products and supporting
infrastructure.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform user research to understand and assess users needs in partnership with product designers.
  • Design data visualization driven user workflows through both low and high-fidelity mock-ups.
  • Test driven user workflows to validate and iterate data visualization design paradigms.
  • Build and deploy production ready data visualization solutions using a software development approach.
  • Support a culture of data visualization design excellence within the product development team.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for other team members in both technical and non-technical capacities.
  • Deliver products that people love to use.
  • Develop and reinforce quality design methods within the team (reuse, consistency, etc.).
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in continual improvement processes as a member of a larger design and development team.
  • Work directly with end-users and product stakeholders.
  • Lead coordination efforts with external dependencies.
  • Work as part of a fully remote team.
  • Work directly with other developers and operations to create and maintain product infrastructure related to data visualization platforms.
  • Participate in peer feedback processes.
  • Develop an understanding of users and business processes.

Job-specific skills & Technical Proficiencies:

  • Experience designing and building solutions in modern data visualization platforms like Tableau, PowerBI, or
  • Amazon QuickSight
  • Experienced in SQL query writing, especially across multiple databases and servers.
  • Experience with applying data visualization design theory and best practices to solve user workflows.
  • Experience taking highly complex data and turning it into actionable insights.
  • Experience with data warehouse technologies such as Redshift, MySQL, SQL Server, Athena, BigQuery,
  • Postgres, and Snowflake.
  • Experience incorporating complex security paradigms into data visualization solutions.
  • Familiarity with the integration of data visualizations into a modern cloud based application architecture.
  • Familiarity with modern collaboration tools such as Slack, Zoom, and VS Code Live Share
  • Ability to leverage both qualitative and quantitative research methods for improving workflows.
  • Ability to utilize incremental product design techniques
  • Ability to empathize with end users
  • Ability to test user workflows and collecting user feedback
  • Preferred ability to develop low and high-fidelity mock ups in tools like Sketch, Figma, etc.
  • Preferred familiarity with modern software development tools and platforms such as GitHub, Visual Studio,
  • AWS, Docker, etc.
  • Preferred experience in designing and building data visualization components using code based platforms like
  • Plotly or D3.
  • Preferred familiarity with at least one scripting or programing language like Python, Javascript, or C#

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree In quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics or Engineering. Computer Science, Healthcare Administration, or a related field
  • Or equivalent educ/experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree: Applicable work experience may be substituted.
  • Proven experience with database management, statistical representation of data, presentation, spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • 8 years Experience in programming using SQL.
  • 4 years Experience using data visualization software such as Tableau, PowerBI, SSRS, etc.
  • Background in data warehouse design (e.g., dimensional modeling) and data mining.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree In related field or
    • Master’s Degree: Three years of experience in an analytic or technical role working with multiple data systems.
  • Insurance experience.

The salary range listed for this position MIN:$43.26 to MAX:$71.04 per hour is based upon the primary work location XXX posted. This position is remote. Salary range and offers are determined by internal pay equity and geographic cost of living differences. Salary rage will vary from State and region. Salary max is limited to 75% range in order to continue to offer internal pay growth. We welcome open and transparent discussions on salary at Providence.

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
