Responsibilities
Reporting to the Division Chair of Revenue Cycle, this role serves as the senior leader of the enterprise revenue cycle’s patient access and financial counseling teams across all provider sites and locations. The leader will lead the team’s front end error resolution team and the digitization of patient access in partnership with practice and administrative stakeholders. Additionally, the leader will be accountable for operational design and performance management of all relevant vendor relationships including eligibility, financial counseling, and other related programs. The leader will also serve as the revenue cycle’s operational point of contact to all enterprise Office of Access Management teams with the goal of driving an exceptional consumer experience through unprecedented efficiency and access, providing patients and families the kind of flexibility and convenience they are yet to experience in healthcare. The leader will work closely with all key Financial and Revenue Cycle leadership in addition to the administrative and clinical leadership across Mayo to ensure access management operational success. Additional key responsibilities include:
- Recognized and relied upon as a domain expert to synthesize various subject matter expert inputs to formulate solutions and implement change for multi-disciplinary or complex technical issues.
- Identifies technical and operational strategies that lead to improved financial performance and implements these improvements while preserving Mayo standards and minimizing the financial and legal risks to Mayo.
- Participates in establishing an environment that leads to efficient Revenue Cycle operations and adheres to complicated and ambiguous billing rules and regulations (all payers).
- Attract and retain key talent while achieving a high level of morale. Continue to build a high performing and highly accountable team that works collaboratively to achieve business objectives, translating revenue cycle vision into meaningful and effective results.
- Spearheads and promotes effective change management practices and leads others effectively through these changes.
- Initiates, leads, and facilitates institutional workgroups or complex projects.
- Handles ambiguous situations in a productive and professional manner and leads others through such situations successfully.
- Periodic but infrequent site-based travel may be required with the role.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field and a minimum of 10 years of related experience in a hospital or health-care related environment, which includes at least 8 years’ experience in major healthcare system or Healthcare consulting firm required.
Preference will be given to individuals with prior experience as a Director, Revenue Cycle. A Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
Advanced certification in healthcare is desirable. Broad expertise in healthcare management, healthcare operations, change management and systems preferred. Experience on non-clinical operational efficiency improvements, care process/procedural standardization improvements, and/or improved patient outcome activities are preferred. Well-disciplined in quality improvement methodology. Demonstrated ability to relate to, gain support of, and drive consensus with clinicians and administrators for the purpose of operational efficiency improvements related to patient experience, financial results and care process improvement. Must have significant facilitation skills and persistence in gaining physician leadership and clinical/technical support for the implementation of organizational strategies. Demonstrated knowledge of revenue cycle accounting processes, cost/benefit analysis and strategic planning. Must be capable of independent work, with little to no guidance provided exercising good judgment, creating an environment in which people communicate with each other respectfully, solving problems, and growing personally and professionally. Must be an advocate of change management, effectively communicating and implementing change and managing it proactively in order to minimize disruption to the Practice, patients and revenue cycle operations. Must be an individual of high integrity, comfortable working in a team environment, possessing vision, solving problems through effective planning and management. Experience in making and implementing decisions in a complex, consensus-oriented environment required. Must have excellent negotiation skills with external and internal constituencies and a thorough knowledge of industry best practices to continually enhance and improve revenue cycle processes. Promotes teamwork and seeks to maximize the potential of all employees. Demonstrated oral and written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills are essential. Able to effectively communicate Revenue Cycle strategies and initiatives to internal management groups and business partners, including MC executive leadership and industry and Fortune 100 company leaders. Must be proficient with software programs (Excel, Word, etc.).
