We’re looking for a Senior Director, Strategic Sourcing to support our Finance team.
Chicago-based candidates only; This is a hybrid remote position located in Chicago, IL with availability for an average of 1-3 days per week in person meetings. Occasional travel as requested.
Position Summary
The Senior Director of Strategic Sourcing will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in partnership with the CFO to continue building a best-in-class procurement function. The Senior Director of Strategic Sourcing is responsible for executing, and in some instances defining, the purchasing strategy of the company. The Senior Director will ensure capital is spent efficiently, with the three main categories being trade/vendor purchasing, company meetings and events, and employee travel and expense reimbursement. He/she will negotiate the best quality against the best price, time and delivery conditions. This role will work closely across multiple functions within the business to ensure the expectations of strategic vendors are met or exceeded.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure that indirect purchasing strategies, processes and technologies are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs of the company in terms of price, quality and delivery targets
- Responsible for ongoing management of purchasing strategy and activity and for ensuring optimal supplier performance and price
- Proactively drive procurement savings (identification of cost-savings and cost-reduction opportunities), continuously search for and negotiate the best quality against the best price and time delivery conditions and always evaluate and optimize our relationship with our suppliers and proactively look for better alternatives.
- Work collaboratively, negotiate, and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the purchasing strategy
- Provide commercial advice and support to the business to minimize risk, reduce costs and maximize profits through commercial knowledge and negotiation
- Monitor and advise on any issues which present risk or opportunity to the organization – this may also include suggesting alternative components or vendors
- Centralize vendor onboarding to help drive cost savings and vendor optimization
- Proactively manage key supplier relationships
- Reach-out to suitable Vendors, lead negotiations on suitable terms to ensure best commercial models and pricing, select and close out best partnership terms
- Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers
- Track, benchmark and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve the effectiveness
- Provide commercial solutions to operational challenges. Influence and motivate stakeholders, internal and external, to take the best commercial solution.
- Refine and lead comprehensive travel spend and audit strategy
- Leads facilities team responsible for office operations, meetings and event sourcing
- Creation and management of short term, mid term and long term saving goals and objectives.
What You’ll Bring
- 12+ years of progressive work experience with increased responsibility within indirect strategic sourcing, travel and expense management and a deep understanding of procurement-related economic and financial analyses
- Bachelor’s degree (four-year college or university) or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Proven negotiator and influencer
- Deep knowledge of RFx
- Experience reporting to Executive leadership levels
- A demonstrated record of initiative, problem solving, and change management
- Advanced and proven knowledge of procurement industry cost structures, drivers and technologies
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Experience implementing and using technology such as travel and expense and procurement technologies
- Experience negotiating with large marquis software and technology vendors, real estate leases, airlines, hotels, to name a few.
- Experience with building procurement-related workflows across the organization
- Experience with Smartsheets, Egencia, Expensify, Netsuite a plus
- Understanding of sourcing from software and technology suppliers
- Superior supplier negotiation skills through the use of industry facts and data as well as research on supplier’s financial conditions and market positions
- Strong communication and presentation skills, able to be firm and professional with vendors and employees
- Persuasive, able to build positive relationships with ease and influence at all levels
- Strategic thinker with ability to think through change management impacts on the organization
- Ability to anticipate potential issues, ask the right questions and find the right inputs
- Ability to provide fact based advice and development of market and industry analysis
- Analytical mindset deriving conclusions from large data sets
- Ability to see big picture and create workflow / process design across the organization
- Demonstrated creativity with ability to think of new ways to bring more insight into relationships and drive additional value

At Coalfire, equal opportunity and pay equity is integral to the way we do business. A reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role is $104,000 to $179,600 based on national salary averages. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certifications and other factors. You may also be eligible to participate in annual incentive, commission, and/or recognition programs.
