Overview
The Senior Electrician performs advanced and lead level work in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and circuits for the City and its departments and facilities. Participates the installation, replacement, and maintenance of electrical circuits and equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees and participates in the inspection, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment, lighting, and power circuits for the City and its departments and facilities; develops and implements plans and specifications for maintenance and electrical renovation projects.
  • Estimates time and material used on projects; reviews the layout of electrical wiring to ensure compliance with specifications and electrical codes.
  • Advises, leads, and trains staff and participates in the work performed by other electricians; counsels or assists employees, and communicates performance metrics.
  • Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with electrical codes.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports on repairs and service to equipment; reads and interprets blueprints of electrical diagrams to determine location of equipment and conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Plans, implements, and oversees the installation of electrical systems; plans long-range electrical maintenance programs and communicates standards to crews and electricians.
  • Verifies and approves materials and supplies; plans and conducts training programs for assigned employees or staff.
  • Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of and ability to install, repair, and maintain large high voltage equipment, motors, switchgear.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes and regulations.
  • Ability to provide technical expertise and direction to other electricians.
  • Making accurate estimates of time, materials, and labor required for installing equipment or making repairs.
  • Ability to read various complex schematic diagrams and blueprints, troubleshoot electrical systems, and develop resolutions.
  • Ability to use and instruct in various types of hand tools, power tools, precision testing and/or troubleshooting equipment.
  • Customer service and conflict resolution.
  • Communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong and effective relationships.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience
5 years’ experience as an electrician with at least 2 years under a Master Electrician.

Licenses and Certifications
Journeyman Electrician License

Education
High School Diploma, GED
