Summary

Whatcom County Public Works Engineering is hiring a Senior Engineering Technician to the Design and Construction team. The Senior Engineering Technician position is an opportunity for personal and professional growth for an experienced Engineering Technician who is ready to take the next step to leading delivery of projects. In this position, you will manage the Whatcom County pavement preservation program by delivering projects that best utilize local and grant funding. The Senior Engineering Technician will manage the existing pavement condition database, prioritize projects, apply for grants, and deliver projects. This position will play a key role in the Design and Construction team by leading delivery of projects on the Six-Year TIP and Annual Construction Program.
A qualified applicant will have extensive experience in design, inspection, and management of roadway projects. The candidate should have knowledge and familiarity with best construction practices for Hot Mix Asphalt, Chip Seal, and Portland Cement Concrete paving. The Senior Engineering Technician will independently manage development of PS&E packages as well as manage construction projects and should have experience with drafting, estimates, special provisions, contracts, change orders, and other processes.

Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field, AND seven years of progressively responsible engineering technology experience INCLUDING two years of progressively responsible experience at an Engineering Technician IV level OR an Associate’s degree in engineering technology or related field AND nine years of progressively responsible experience at an Engineering Technician IV level OR an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) certificate plus four years of progressively responsible related engineering experience.
