** July 2023 – 4.75% increase to base pay (2.75% Across-the-Board + 2.20% Market Inc.)

THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $60,528.00 ANNUALLY.County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Compensation Ordinance 1.3.5.
The County of San Diego’s Department of Parks and Recreation is currently seeking qualified applicants for Senior Equipment Operator. Incumbent will be part of a stewardship crew that will be responsible for the overall roads and trails maintenance of the County’s various parks and open preserve, which may include but not limited to the following: trail construction and management, vegetation management, habitat enhancement, dirt road grading and repairs, and the protection of cultural resource projects.
This is the lead level class of the series. A Senior Equipment Operator maintains roadways and/or rights-of-way to permit safe access and travel by motorists, cyclists and pedestrians; as well as operates road repairs and maintenance equipment necessary to maintain or repair roadways in compliance with design and safety regulations. Under general supervision, incumbents provide technical guidance and training to lower level staff.

Minimum Qualifications
A valid California Class B driver’s license with a tank endorsement and without transmission or air brake restrictions, and a current medical card is required at time of appointment and both must be maintained throughout employment in this class; AND,
- Two (2) years of experience as an Equipment Operator with the County of San Diego; OR,
- Three (3) years of experience operating motorized equipment in the construction or maintenance of roadways or sewer lines. Such experience must have included the operation of motor-graders, mechanical or vacuum brooms, backhoes, loaders, sewer rodders and dump trucks of various sizes and capacities.
