Senior Fuel Facility Project Inspector

Summary

This position is located in Division of Fuel Facility Inspection, Projects Branch 2.

The supervisor is Eric Michel, Branch Chief.

This position is Bargaining Unit with the National Treasury Employees Union, Chapter 208.

This position requires approximately 35% travel.

This position IS subject to Confidential Financial Disclosure reporting requirements.

This position IS subject to security ownership restriction reporting requirements.

Duties

The successful candidate will perform the full range of Senior Fuel Facility Project Inspector duties. Such duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Plans, performs and documents routine, special, and reactive inspections at NRC regulated facilities to ensure adequate protection of public and worker health and safety, to promote the common defense and security, and to protect the environment.
  2. Resolves and assists others in resolving complex engineering technical inspection issues within the regulatory framework, especially with respect to the enforcement, allegation, and efficiently/effectively communicates these issues to higher level officials.
  3. Participates in emergency response to plant events and participates in and leads routine, special and reactive team inspections.
  4. Assesses the safety and regulatory compliance of licensed activities associated with activities at NRC regulated facilities assigned.
  5. Documents inspection results in a report, determines the safety significance of inspection findings, recommends enforcement actions per established policy, and prepares routine and escalated enforcement documents.
  6. Receives, documents, processes, and inspects concerns expressed by workers and members of the public as required by policy and procedures.
  7. Performs project management duties to ensure the inspection program for his or her assigned facilities is completed and that associated oversight activities and work products are reviewed, assessed, and documented as required.
  8. Mentors new staff in their duties.

Qualifications

In addition to the basic requirements, to qualify for this position applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GG 13) in the occupational series listed above or in another series performing like or similar duties and possessing a knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices in a field of engineering, physical science, or related technical discipline as evidenced by a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Applicants must be familiar with nuclear industry standards, rules and regulations and be able to apply them. Applicants must have recent experience associated with nuclear facility operations, maintenance, and testing that demonstrates knowledge of basic nuclear technology, operating safety procedures, radiological safety, codes, standards and procedures. This ability must have been gained through commercial, government, or military nuclear experience. Education

To qualify for this position, you must meet basic education and professional knowledge requirements that apply to Federal engineering positions at all grade levels, in addition to the specialized experience requirements outlined below.

Applicants must possess a bachelor’s or higher degree in professional engineering or natural science, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating a thorough knowledge of principles, theories, and practices in the field of engineering or natural science. The duty location of this position is Atlanta, Georgia. Telework schedules are approved on a case-by-case basis. If selected, telework will be determined in accordance with Agency policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement, if applicable.
